Hey, I'm fairly new to this board, I joined because I found a mustang that I was interested in about a month ago, and I went and checked it out and it was HORRIBLE. so since then, I've been looking for a stang.

The guy down the street from me is selling a 1989 vert, with a fairly new top on it.

The engine has a little over 100,000 miles on it. Its a burgendy color, with a white cervinis i think its the mach hood, with the 2 vents. With pink flames just on the hood.

Its got just stock ponys, so its still a 4 lug.

The bodys in decent shape. could use a good cleaning. Its got the porno red interior. Which i'm not extremely thrilled about, but I can work on swapping in a black interior down the line.

Exhaust is stock still I'm pretty sure. The only mods that i remember is just a bigger throttle body. Hes not even sure what one he put on it.


I haven't gotten a quote from the guy on how much he wants for it, he says make him an offer. I don't know how much this is worth though, and how much hes looking for. My brother was good friends with him for a while, and remembers that the AOD tranny, is missing overdrive. Its not too big of a deal since one of the first things I want to do is swap in a stick.

So what do you guys think? I'm thinking of going down with my brother to see if he can get a price out of him.

no idea but make the missing OD gear a big deal. Just because it doesn't matter to you doesn't mean you can't use it to your advantage to knock a bit off the price

yeah, exactly what im thinking. He has seat covers on top of the seats, So i'm thinking they are ripped. even if they aren't ripped i'm putting black interior in down the line, but I can say well I have to replace the seats now. and the fact the overdrive doesn't work. and the guys also looking at getting married soon, and this fox has been sitting there for probably 3 years. so I'm sure hes looking at getting rid of it to buy a ring.

The slipping AOD will get to you. The OD band is worn, needs a complete rebuild. My OD started slipping under decent load, but then it just got worse and worse; the car would start off in a higher gear, no highway driving, etc..

Car sounds like it's worth $2000.

2 grand is a little more then i was thinking of spending on this.

mainly cause i have my dad and my brother both thinking these cars aren't worth much. my brother having I think an 1986 gt with T tops that he bought as a roller for 2 grand, but got like 5,000 worth of tools with it for free, and 1971 grande both when he was younger.


and I know the tranny not working would get to me, but I'm planning on putting a 5 speed in it as soon as i gather all the parts If i picked up this one. I have located a t5 i think it was, from a 91 gt for 400.

That could be a problem though because I need to drive around 60 miles on the highway everyday.

Depends on where you live. In NJ, the fox mustangs seem to hold a pretty good value. My neighbor sold his 4 cyl converted to 8 basket cast for $5k. I paid 3k for mine and the paint was shot with some rust to be taken out(however, the car was bone stock, original owner was an older lady)

Offer him 1,000...there's enough wrong with the car to justify a 1K, and keep in mind there's 20 things wrong with it that you won't discover until you tear into it.


My buddy just picked up an '86 GT vert in about the same condition for $500. It wasn't running at all at the time (fuel pump) so it was easy to get a bargain. We put in a new fuel pump and it runs fine

damn man your not far from me? where are you looking at this car ? how much do you want to spend and what exactly are you looking for. You want a t top car, a nothc, or convert. hatch? let me know man, i know a lot of people in the area and i know where there are some stangs for sale.

I'm not a big fan of buying a car with an interior color you don't like.
Swapping in a black interior will not be cheap, nor will swapping in a 5 speed.

The auto wouldn't necessarily keep me from buying it, but i alway think buying a color on the outside and inside that you like is a must.
Mechanically a fox mustang may be one of the easiet cars on the planet to work on, so odds and ends wrong are no big deal.

its right around the block from me. right up the street from independence mall.

I'm looking basically up to around 5 grand, but i'd prefer cheaper. I'm not really picky on what it is, LX, GT, notch, t top, hatch vert, etc. just only real requirements are a 5.0 and stick 87-up. That would be awesome if you could point me in the right direction to look. I've looked at every single craiglist in the 3 new jersey locations that were labeled with mustang haha.

Yeah, I was also thinking of that. how it would total up to if i got something I liked rather then get something cheaper and put what i like in it. It could end up more expensive then other cars im looking at to do what I want to it.


I do body and paint work, at a technical school. so i can work on my car for the cost of supplies.

I'd narrow your search to 89-93 for the simple fact that those cars are Mass Air cars and will give you alot more options for heads, cam, etc. Pre 89 cars are Speed Density computers that don't do will with alot of mods.

Hey just to throw it out there i will be selling my 88 lx with an auto, next week or so. Im buying a t top car and i will be selling this since im gettin the other car. Its black and has no rust, just a lil on the bottom side of the hatch but your a body man, so its no big deal, the fender has a dent and there is also a small dent next to the 1/4 windo, it will have a brand new headliner, and a grey interior. IT has a 190 fuel pump that is brand new. I planned on putting my stroker and built rear into this car, but im found a t top car that i really want and im just gonna throw everything into the t top car instead. thats the only reason im selling this one. It needs headlights tho, but i had planned on gettin the 1 pieces so thats why i never got new ones yet. but i may just throw the ones on it from the t top car im getting. let me know if your interested, just shoot me a pm and i can send you a few pics i have. IT will come with Ponys too, instaed of the ugly turbines. I dont want to put the price up here cuz they will say im trying to make this a classified ad or some crap, I just want to tell you about it and see if you interested.
