just wondering what it would sound like if i cut a hole in each of my mufflers, on the side without the tailpipe outlet (offset). Just kind of a random thought. i have seen this with oil barrel caps and threads, so you can screw the cap on to make it quieter. Another thought i had was to just weld a piece of pipe from the hole into my tailpipes. I don't know how many chambers my mufflers are, but they are WAY too quiet for having full exhaust (with LT's and xpipe). and i am just looking to see if there is a way to avoid spending $300 for some flow 40's... Would this just sound like crap? I would be able to do all the welding and get piping for free.... maybe take me 15 min.... Bad idea?

thats what i assumed. even if i run it straight into my tailpipe? would this sound worse than str8 piping? i have no intention of str8's, but i'd much rather save some $$$! if i tape some party whistles inside my tails, will it sound like a turbo?

whats a dump switch? is that a just a dump on the open side, and u can press a button or something to switch it to run through tails if u want?

edit - there is no way i'd be the FIRST Canadian hillbilly! we have plenty already!

The way you titled the thread made me think you ate too many paint chips as a kid.

Look at the flowtech warlock mufflers.

if you want loud, get a straight throught muffler design like a bullet or loudmouths.

i run bullets and their LOUD, loud enough to where i stopped hot rodding my car in town its just too loud it draws too much attention.

ive actually thought about going back to flowmasters or trying out some flowtech mufflers. my friend has some flowtech mufflers i forget what they are ( terminators i think) but they sound nice, better than flowmaster 40's IMO. flows sound good just gets old after hearing them constantly

a cardboard turbo kit for $50? how much hp does it add? since it's cardboard, i can't see it lasting too long though....

hahaha! this is the most replies in the shortest amount of time i've ever had for a post! i figured it'd maybe get some attention! it was just a half-a** idea... i was expecting this kind of response... too bad though. it sucks when i have aftermarket mufflers and i still have to buy another set........ but whatever kind of dynomax is on the car, sucks! i can hear my injectors over my exhaust! i hoped the LT''s and x would wake things up, but it actually got quieter

LTs will be quieter down low, louder up top. You have dynomax super turboes which are just louder then stockers. Time for some new mufflers to get that sound you want. Describe the sound you want and I could help. I have LTs and an X pipe, as well as a few people I know!

Haven't you heard of Red Green?

Dont cut, it would sound horrible. You could make a set of dumps for cheap if you just want it louder.

Check into IMCO mufflers. The guy who did my exhaust put some on my car. He is fully stocked with Flowmasters and I went in and told him I wanted some 40 series and he told me that Flowmaster lost their patent or something so IMCO is now making an exact replica of the Flowmaster 40's. He sold me 2 of them and installed them for $125 and they sound great. Just an idea. Or go with the dump switch. They arent that cheap though.

the cardboard thing was just a joke! as for the sound i want, i found this clip on you-tube, he says its a stock 5.0, with only headers, flowmasters and x-pipe. i was really hoping that my car would sound like this, but its not even close! i figured with my mods (not much, but in sig and more than the car in clip says) that it would be a bit louder! my car sounds like a minivan! how do u know i have super turbo's? educated guess? they were on the car when i bought it, but i have a feeling that they are killing my sound, whatever they are.
oh- and i'm trying to stay away from dumps if i can. who sells imco? i live in canada, so everything is pretty expensive, and selection is very limited. i buy almost everything from the states. even with exchange/shipping/brokerage/duties, (which is often over $150 on a $400 order, its still $100-$200 less than buying locally)
sound clip of what i want
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZTh0RqdPtg
if anybody has suggestions for a better setup (sound clips?) , i'm definately interested! i want it to sound mean, but not ridiculously loud.... i like how the clip sounds, but maybe more bass to the exhaust note would be nice. anythings better than what i have now.

i like the first one! but it's in a garage, and doesn't say the mods, which could both make a big difference in the sound. i still like the clip i posted best. if i could get my car to sound like that it'd be great!!! i don't want it too raspy

DO NOT CUT HOLES IN YOUR MUFFLERS. I had another 88' a couple of years ago, and they guy before me cut holes in the mufflers and welded around them to try and prevent rust. It sounded just like I had holes in my mufflers. In other words, it sounded like ass!!
