hey everyone....i have a 95 cobra and here is what i'm planning on changing with my car: cam, throttle body, spacer, hood, rear bumper, headlights, new paint, smog delete, headers... since i already have cast iron gt40 heads and intake i'm gonna leave them...... my question is what else should i change??? i had underdrive pulleys on my 92 gt, but i have read in the forums that people with our body style have trouble with pulleys especially on the alternator....would they be worth it???? i'm trying to figure my finances and how much to save....

Pullies droped me .3 in the qrtr. For the time gained and cost its hard to beat. I had a charging issue and just swapped back to the stock alt. pullie and no more issue.

FWIW-with stock gt40 heads off a 95, TFS1 cam, ported stock gt lower (in the hood' of the gt40 as far as flow) un-tuned on street tires I ran a 13.5 @ 102mph.

Depending on which ones you get, you might not even have charging issues. It seems to depend on the car as well. Try all three on there, and if you have issues, its 5 minutes to swap the stock alt. pulley back on.

My Pro-M mass air meter helped my cobra pick up a bunch at the track. Also, the charging kinda sucked when i had the 3 underdriven pulleys on so I swapped the stock alt pulley back on and that helped.

I can't be certain but

IMHO, when you do that

You are giving up a good bit of the gain

The alt draws a good bit of energy when the batt needs some juice.

If you are not running a big sound system or other things that pull a lot of juice, it is true, you'll see the lights dim a bit at idle but I don't think you are gonna have any big issues with them other than that.

I know I do not with mine

with the aftermarket alt. pullie the overcharging or extra draw on the alt. needing it to work harder actually burned up the alt. power wire (melted it). I had to replace the term. and cut back some of the wire as it was even funky looking. I also have a fairly power hungry sound system in the car so I saw the issues fairly soon.

I saw no diff. in swapping the alt. pullie. I was worried about what Grady said when I went to the stock pullie. A buddy of mine had a 98 GT that mod for mod we were DEAD even...very good comparo as to if a mod helped or not. The one who did the mod first won and when we had the same mods we were dead even unless someone messed up (didnt happen much either). We ran them a few times to make sure it was repeatable and there was no diff. in the outcome with the factory alt. pully.

I think you would gain more from headers
than
going with a larger tb

Even all the more so if you went with LT's

I know, I know ... I saw the bit about your mid pipe

If you could sell it for anywhere close to what you got in it

I would still ...... without reservation
tell you to go with LT's and get a new mid pipe.

For a na h/c/i street car .......
LT's really make a noticeable diff in the low and mid range
over shortys ... no matter if they be equal or unequal

If you have a buddy with a welder cut up the mid pipe. I have been thinking about doing some things...mostly longtubes and just cutting up the O/R mac H pipe to work with LT's. I dont see how it could be THAT hard to do if you already have an O/R H or can pick one up used for cheap to cut up.

I dont think its easy but easier than a 96+ 4v I would bet. Prob. a weekend jober taking your time and getting drunk and sober-ing back up to finish at most.

My debate is over keeping the EGR and getting 94-95 specific LT's or dumping the EGR (non internal egr explorer intake) getting fox LT's and going with a fox t-body swap to clean up the bay alittle.

Right now the BIGGIE for me is it is easier to get a fox accufab t-body than finding a used accufab for 94-95's. I dont want a PP, maybe...maybe a eldb/bbk but I want a 70mm so mo FMS one I just keep going back and forth...
