so i removed all my smog stuff, i just didnt pull off the pump yet. i was wondering if i could re-direct the airflow coming from the pump, into my intake system, before the maf and use it as a very small, very ghetto supercharger? how would this work?

I though about that a while back and figured if it did work everyone would be doing it.

LOL that is a ghetto idea but ingenious piece of thinking. I'd be interested in hard facts and statistics to prove or disprove the idea.

HAHAHA!! You could call it the smogonator and sell it online! But seriously that is pretty creative thinking. You should be in marketing or inventing!

I was thinking about something like this too a while back. Except with the A/C. Cold air and is getting pumped in.

Clever idea but I'm not to sure that amount of volume it puts out would be worth ass when pumped into 3.5 Dia intake tract???
I know I had my belt off and all the plumbing removed..I ghetto capped it with a fairly rugged plastic capt...one day I heard this "pop" and some bigtime leakage...The heat from the pump had made the plastic cap I used expand and then blow up... so it does push some air..It only lasted 2 days before it took a dump and blew up... Would be a good "im bored" project though...

where does the pump take in air from? idk whether or not to filter it. i think im gonna try this lol. the only thing im worried about is that when i put my hand over the out going air, it felt very choppy, so idk how well the maf is gonna read "puffs" of air.

If you put it in front of the MAF, you'll need to seal the intake in front of it. If it is behind it, it won't meter anything from the pump. It will be seen by the computer as "extra air" in the intake.

How about this? Use an old turbo. Drive the compressor of the turbo with an electric motor. Use the TPS to increase the speed of the electric motor to compensate for increased engine speed. You could "lead" the engine speed to make more or less boost. It would have to be a strong electric motor and would be complicated to control it. No parasitic drag would be the benefit, if it could be made to work.

that would be pretty cool. you could probably make it more effiecent if you could remove the hot side of the turbo and just have the cool side, less drag on the electric motor.

i was a little confused on what you said by "sealing the intake" if i put the smog line before the maf

creative idea, but dont be disappointed when it yeilds no gains at all.....the speed the pump runs at and the amount of air it flows alone make this project a waste of time.

LMAO... Maybe if you remove it and install it on a 4hp lawnmower... ONLY then could you maybe see some boost.

I mean that if you don't seal the front side of the MAF (if you put it there), the extra pressure will simply escape through the air filter. You have to have some sort of chamber for the air to "push against" to see boost. Also, to get boost, you would have to overcome the vacuum that is present there, when the engine is running. That is a lot of volume. It takes a large engine driven pump (supercharger, turbo) to see even one atmosphere of pressure (or even less).

I agree with the other posts that elude to the fact that the pump doesn't flow enough volume to make any difference at all on a v8 engine. May even be seen as a vacuum leak.
