What to do next on a Cobra

Seems to me ... the easy way out is ......................

Sell the Cobra intake, take the money one would spend on porting, and put both amounts of money on a better flowing intake like a TFS or Edel.

I would never look at one of your responses as being out of line.

I was thinking of doing just what you said (sell and get better a intake like TFS or Edel) but from reading threads on this very forum I've heard great things about having the lower ported. I read that many ppl are very pleased with the work done by TMoss and that's where I plan to send mine. Also, with changing from a 94-95 cobra intake, I didn't want to have to worry about getting an elbow or converting to a fox style TB. I have also read about having to adjust (lenghten) the throttle cable, spacers, and problems with the pcv fitting. Plus I also want to keep the stock appearance. However if I ever do change, from what I've read I'll probably go with the performer II from Edel...seems to have the best top-end breathing.

After market h & i don't flow that much better than the Cobra oem stuff but they do offer a gain just the same.

Its not my intent to start some pissin match between oem stuff peeps and after market stuff peeps at all so .............. lets talk about it. :D

There is some site where tons of P head peeps in pages and pages of threads talk about breaking the 300rwhp mark. :shrug:

You can go to most sites and see after market combos at 300 to 325 rwhp without having to look very hard to find them. :shrug:

Almost forgot ... I think we all are talking about a stock short block here.

What I think this means from your perspective if I read you correct is ........
is the gain worth the money spent?

A cam would do you the most good for what you got now IMHO. :banana:

Then again, is say 285rwhp give or take a bit gonna be enough for you? That is about what your combo with all the supporting parts could produce with a custom tune.

If that is not enough ... you will have to step it up a bit with your selection of combo parts and that means more money as well.

I do know what your are saying as I did the self ported E7 combo or most bang for the buck spent thing several years ago.

After that ... I had to decide what I wanted for my long term goals and decided to skip the better oem stuff and go straight to after market combo stuff which did allow me to reach those goals.

They flow much more. Those small numbers mean a big difference HP/TQ wise. For example using the FAQ section, the stock GT40 heads flow on average 138.6 CFM's while the popular replacements AFR 165's and Twisted Wedge's flow on avg. 168.8 and 171.6 CFM. Those 30+ CFM's are across the entire valve lift which equate to a great deal of HP/TQ. This is why ppl do it. IMO the head change alone (keep stock cam & intake) on your car is probably worth 50+ hp at the flywheel. Hope that helps with your decision.

I got side tracked a bit when I was posting that other stuff and ment to say my focus was on money spent and ease of obtaining the goal.

Tom is very good at porting and I in no way don't think his service is not a good or valid option here.
His stuff looks first rate to me from every thing I have seen. :nice:

I do have to admit it ... I always forget about you Cobra boys not needing an elbow :bang:

Those dang things are 100 bux so it may very well be the better deal to just get Tom to open your existing lower up a bit :shrug:

Like all things, you just gotta see which path is good for you. :D

I remember seeing in "Muscle Mustangs" or "5.0" that on a mild 306, AFR 165s made the most power over stock E7 heads. I want to say it was like 90HP and 70TQ, but I'm not 100% sure on that, and I can't remember what cam they were using, nor am I sure if that was FHP or BPH
. There was like four different issues...or was that the intakes :shrug:
I was going to do a H/C/I on my 88, but plans changed.
 
this is what i did, and just a suggestion. save your money and rebuild the bottom end with a 347
instead of buying a bunch of boltons, i saved and bought that as almost the first performance mod. plus you already have a full exhuast, and all the cobra equipment to support it.
