What would you do in this situation

WHAT??? An automatic robs atleast 10% more HP than a manual. You take two equal cars with the same mods, one with an auto, and one with a stick and a driver who knows how to drive, and the stick wins. The only time an auto is good is on psychotically fast drag cars where 4 manual shifts just aren't reasonable.

Sorry youre wrong, an auto with a higher stall and jmod, will be faster in the 1/4 than a manual car with the same performance mods. And not only on just hp cars.

Yes the 4r70w leaves something to be desired stock, but it can be a formidable tranny when built right.

it may "rob" hp on the dyno due to the convertor, but just wait until track day & you'll find that "missing" power. now if you're autocrossing, that's another story

I agree. A Mustang is the wrong car to buy to sell.

 Some day you will want a different car. I've had at least 15 cars and
they all gave me excellent resale. They dont sit in a garage either, I drive
around 20k per year. The main thing with resale is not milage but condition.
Keep them clean and running perfect and you will be glad you did.
If I had a pure track car then wtf.... tear it up. My stang can be returned to stock
cause I dont really want any irreversible mods. As we all know mods ad zero
value when you go to sell........ and you will.

I already want another car (mainly DD purposes), so I'll go buy one in a year. But my Mustang isn't going anywhere.

i say keep the GT its paid off dont get a mach then ur just making payments again. Throw some money at the GT and waste mach1s and i mean supercharger boltons wont do it lol. But if u really insist on something different go for a cobra might as well spend the extra cash and get something faster than a mach.

I would keep the GT if i were you that xtra cash u spend to get the mach could be the supercharger u want. but its up to u man

Thats the best case scenario for sure...... my goal as well.
Back in the early 90's I actually paid off my Z-28 and bought a DD honda civic....
but stupidly I got money hungry and sold the Z That lasted about 2 months
then I sold the civic and bought another Z. Back to 1 car :bang:

All I'm saying is that resale value shouldnt be the reason you pass on modding your car. Should you keep it clean and do basic maintainance so that when the day comes to sell her you get top dollar? Of course! But sacrificing something that you want just because someone else 5 years down the line might not like it is ridiculous IMO...

And I can guarantee that not EVERYONE will want to sell their car at some point - I've had mine 6 and a half years (it was my first car) and I'll own it till the day I die.

Thats what people say about there current girlfriend too.:rlaugh:

well i wont presume to tell someone what to do with their cash but if i had a car paid off with so few miles i'd hang on to it. car notes suck up mod money. for example. i'd like to get a blue GT wiht black interior 5spd for around 10K with maybe 75K miles on it. its possible, i've seen some in the past but i'd then be spending an extra 150 bucks each month on a car that isn't as fast as my 240 and couldn't be without a few thousand in mods. then i found a V6 with 48K on the clock for around what it looks like i might sell my ranger for effectively eliminating a car note altogether and shaving 80K miles off the daily driver. sure it aint as fast as a GT but it looks alright, has decent pickup, and with some wheels and bullitsuspension (stuff the GT would need anyhow) it should be a fun little car to drive when the money pit is on jackstands.

if i had a GT and no payments and no other toy it would definately get bolt ons + heads + cams and some handling mods.

I had the same dilemma, just a few days ago... buy s/c this winter (car is now paid off... one more payment) or, sell car here for $14K ish (canadian $$... stock ones go for about $12K with the same mileage) and buy a 1999 cobra from the states with the money that I get for my car.

It's still a little up in the air but I'm more towards getting a ATI procharger, because I have put alot of time and effort into this car making it the way I want. As nice as a black on black 99 cobra sounds, I know my car in and out, and if I can slowly make it as fast as what I want and as nice as I think it looks now, I'm set.

I'm the second owner and I know the 1st owner babied it which I think is huge to me...

I hope my cars life story gives you some outlook on what you want to do....

:)

Thanks guys all your input has been leaning me one way or the other. The only thing is Im 18, and insurance absolutely kills me. Either way Its hard for me to find mod money whether the car is paid off or not. I have a very good job but still it's not as easy as, this is my only toy and the car is paid off. Im definetly keeping the gt and will do it up. If I got the mach Id have nothing to play with, all my money would be eaten up. I think keeping the stock gt would be much more fun. Thanks again guys all your advice is greatly appreciated.

I'd say since your car is paid off to keep what you got & mod it. But then again i sold my modded 95GT Auto for the Mach 5spd and never looked back:D .

5spd > auto ( as far as fun to drive goes )

I have to go with the majority here......Not having any payments is a nice thing. If your only 18, you may even be able to save huge on your insurance depending where you live (u should check). I'd hands down go for the blower.......:nice:
