I read a thread about a week ago from a guy that had a similar problem as I am with my 95 and changed what he called a distributor stator which fixed the problem, so I told my mechanic whos working on my problem and he said thats what hes changing next but that its not under the distributor like the guy said his was and that its called an ignition module which is located inside the passenger side fender. Are these the same thing?

These are not the same thing. I haven't had any expereinece with either one but I do know they are not the same.

Most seem to refer to a SPOUT (spark output) or PIP in the distributor as the culprit.

yeah..the stator is INSIDE your distributor. it's also knows as the PIP, hall effects sensor, blah blah. if you're having your car randomly die or shut off after a litle bit of driving, then u should replace that. the piece itself costed me like 10-15 bucks @ autozone.

yea at first it wouldnt start every once in a while then it started happening more often and progressed into shuting down on me as soon as i start it or while i was driving. Its like the rpms just drop dead.

All i can say is GOOD LUCK getting that thing out of there. I cracked my distributor on my last mustang which was a 94' GT as i was attempting to remove the piece on the bottom to get to it.
