So, Ive decided to buy a set of aluminum heads, but now stuck on which ones. At this point my shortblock only has 1000 miles on it with speed pro hyper piston flat tops. I wanted to go to forged dome pistons, this is where it becomes a problem.

At First I was thinking the Twisted Wedge Street/Strip heads- But I can't find any domed pistons that are made for them for press fit connecting rods and I really don't want to buy another set or rods.

Then I was thinking Edelbrock RPM- But from the stuff I've read I'm kind of iffy good they are and how much they flow. But I can get a set of forged dome pistons for press fit rods for these heads, that will make about 10.5-1 compression.

Also thought about the Victor Jr.- From what I've read they seem to be pretty good heads, but some people think they are too much head for a 302, or 306 whatever, but even with the higher compression and a good cam and intake wouldn't that help.

Or, should I just stick with the speed pro hyper pistons, I will get about 9.2 compression with 60cc chamber heads.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Vic Jr.'s are not "too big of a head" for a 306..... cam it correctly and you'll see. Canfield 195's is also a good option, even if you decide to go the "stroker route" afterward. Hyper pistons?...... not an option in my book, but it's your call.

cant beat the bang for the buck of the twisted wedges.

out of the box they flow great as cast, come with 2.02 valves stock and will clear stock pistons.

work killer for a mild setup and with a little portwork they will work awesome with stroker or 351 etc.

i run a set of TW, box stock and they work really well.

What cam do you think would work well with the Vic Jr.'s, I was thinking about getting the TFS stage 2, what would you recommend.

I don't know which heads I want to go with yet, the TW were my 1st choice, but the only forged dome pistons I can find for them are for floating pins and I don't want to buy another set of rods.

You can get rods as low as $150 that are a little better than stockers.
Im looking to get $1000 for the heads, rockers, arp bolts.
Heads have new track heat springs, valves and grind.

Why are you looking at domed pistons? There are many heads on the market with 58cc chambers that will net you just under 10:1 on a 306. When you go to a 347 that same head will net you just over 11:1.

If it were me and I was not going to boost or spray the motor I'd go with your shortblock, a set of RHS200's and a custom cam. You'll be able to net about 425 at the flywheel (306), spin it to 7K (no problem on stock internals) and pull over 16" of vacuum for a smooth idle. Of course if you want a lumpy idle you can have that too with a custom cam. You are looking at about 1800.00 though so it's not cheap but you'll have something you can grow into.
