Widest Tire on 8.5 inch rim

What is the widest tire I can run on a 8.5 inch rim?

when you find the tire you want to use, look at the recommended rim widths.... i would think a 275, but many people swear by 275 for 8 inch rims

255 is the widest recommended by all manuf.'s I looked at.

That's about right. If you put a 275 on an 8.5" wheel, it will probably be fine, but it's not recommended. It's borderline territory.

i have a 275 tire on my stock rims...for the autox track and it sticks out abunch, but no rubbing.......not good for daily driving i'm sure.....

A lot of guys run 275/40/17's on their stock 17x8 wheels on the 99-04 cars. It bulges a bit, but can be done.

I personally wouldn't do it on an 8" wide wheel, but 8.5" i'd feel better
