I have a 1988 Mustang GT. I already have 4-lug 17" Cobra R wheels. I believe they are 17 by 9. The car is lowered using Steeda sport springs. I would like to know what is the widest tire I can use on the front wheels and also the back wheels. I do not want to remove the quad shocks or modify the wheel wells. Infomation greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I had Cobra R's 17x9. 255/40R17 in front and 275/40R17 in rear, worked perfectly.

The front being lower (just slightly) and a little wider than a 245/45R17 if filled the wheel a lot better and no scrubbing. 245's were too narrow, the sidewall looked funny. 275/40R17 also fills well in the rear. Going too wide only distorts the radial footprint and has the oppisite effect of whats desired.

i'm running the 255/40 front and 275/40 rear combo.i have no quads though.i don't think you'd fit 275s in the rear without removing or atleast flipping the quads.

Depends on your rims, each rim manufacturer has different back spacing or offset, this effects the size of tire you can have without rubbing, some guys can put a 255 wide tire on and it works fine while some rub. I have a 245 on mine and mine rub, and thats the stock size. test and see what works for you.

take note amp, you have an 88 which has smaller spaces for tires. 90-93 has a larger space that will allow a wider tire. super302 has a 92 and fits into this range. if i had to guess, you wouldnt be able to do the same setup that 302 has without rubbing issues.
