Yet another MAF Conversion THREAD

ok i understand the basics. of the SD to MAF....

my question is on the IST website that sells just the harness, it has an obd-i and obdII option,im assuming i need the obd-1, but i want to use the 94-95gt's maf. would i still be ok? like would i need a obd-1 to obdII connector. or are sn95 5.0's obd-1?? if so then i would be ok...

2ndly i guess my part list should consist is the IST websites obd-1 harness, a A9p computer(for my auto), and a 94-95 gt's maf.... and foxes intake box setup or i could go custom CAI which wouold be easier and get more ponies.....

3rd) would i need to do anything with the wires going to my fuel pump relay,tailights etc. if im just doing the harness swap... i really need to do more reasearch on the how to. but arent all you doing is adding this harness into your computer. like in theory if just taking the a9p moving somethings over to make room for the MAF.??

now here's my question...i see the "pigtails" online for 50 bucks...im wonder if this would work???

The 94-95 MAF is a direct fit for the stock 89-93 MAF. So use a conversion harness that matches the 89-93 model MAF.

Add the coversion harness, move the pins for the thermator air system and you add a wire going to the fuel pump relay and VSS. See MASS air conversion instructions from http://www.stangnet.com/tech/maf/massairconversion.html

There are no other changes that need to be made for a Mass Air conversion. The stock air box is as good as any CAI kit.

so basically just get the MAF harness from the above website for obd-I, for easiest installation. the computer that works for autos and manual i think it a A9P, in case i decide to go 5spd later.....a MAF from a 89-95 mustang. and i'll be set.but will the s95's work with a 89-93 computer?? or can i get the sn95 computer?

just run the maf harness wires through the firewall, then wire them into the connector inside the car. wire some other wires here an their, then replace then swap the computers. thats it???

40 bucks? Sheesh! I just did this a month ago and got my harness for $12 from www.fordfuelinjection.com

Dont forget to get about 10 of the EEC-IV pins too. Their harness wrap is really nice and very handy as well.

The 94-95 MAF is a direct swap for the 89-93 5.0 Mustang MAF. No changes to wiring or computer are needed.

94-95 Mustang GT MAF - $40-$100. It is 70 MM instead of the stock 55 MM on regular stangs built prior to 94. It uses a slip on duct on the side that goes to the throttle body and a 4 bolt flange on the other. You need a flange adapter to fit the stock slip on air ducting that goes to the air box. Wiring plugs right in with no changes. *1 *2

*1.) Metal flange adapter http://www.kustomz.com/cat3.html Buy the TR70 for $44.95. Or spend some time on eBay looking for one that may fit.

*2.) MAF & sensor interchange
The 94-95 Mustang 5.0 MAF & sensor is also found on:
1995-94 Mustang 3.8L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Crown Victoria 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1995-94 Mustang, Mustang Cobra 5.0L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Town Car 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-92 Grand Marquis 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
Evidently the –A1A, -A2A, AA, etc. on the end of the part number is a minor variant that did not change the operating specs. You should be able to ignore it and have everything work good.

I was just browsing through this thread and saw the potential for some confusion.

If you doing a MAF swap on a MAF car then that is what Jr's post applies to. Keep in mind that there are wiring pin swaps required at the EEC when converting from SD to MAF.

i dunno i think jr know what im asking here
,changing the pins is gonna be were my job turns into hell......im gonna need more pics and help...i probably put my laptop out while im doing it..LOL.....so i just need the obd-1 or pbd-II harness,A9P,MAF, and a full friday or weekend....im gonna start ordering my parts at a time....could you imagine that they want like 600.00 bucks for a kit...
50.00 for harness
90-100.00 for maf(proably cheaper if i can find a 3.8L Stang at the junkies...
and 100.00 for the ecu....
thats like under 300.00....

It's not that hard...it took me less than 2 hours. The tech article on this site is very good and if you follow it you won't have any problems. The pins were pretty easy, just solder the pins on the wires and plug them into the connector.

I thought it would be a pain to get the pins already in the connector to release...but it's really a piece of cake. If you look closely, it's obvious how they release.

You can get the correct MAF pigtail here for $12 ...why not save some cash?

is the pigtail connector the same thing as the MAF harness from my link.....??? if thats the case,then heck yah thats a lot cheaper......remeber im converting my 88gt from SD to MAF....

you mean all i have to do is solder some pins on the end of the harness/pigtail thing,and connect them into the connector in the kick panel? and rearrange some of the other wires...
this is for 68key;
did you do all that thermocator,speed siganl,and fuel pump monitor siganl stuff. it says it optional but i dont want no drama.lol

Yep, the pigtail is all you need. I converted my 88GT from SD to MAF. The MAF pigtail is the same for 89-93 and 94-95.

I did all of the signals, it was simple. The wires are clearly marked and easy to find, you just have to splice a wire into the fuel pump signal wire and the speed signal, then run the wires under the dash over to the ECU connector, solder pins on the end and then plug the pins into the connector.

Honestly, the hardest part was running the MAF pigtail wires through the firewall grommet and the fuel pump signal wire under the carpet!

I was a bit wary going into it, but trust me if you have any mechanical ability at all and can solder it is very easy.

Just take your time, read the instructions through a few times and you'll be fine

When I finished and plugged the ECU back into the connector, I started my car and it ran perfectly. No drama at all

yah i was thinking about running the wire around the center console.but i guess i'll just pull up my carpet....
well thanks for the 12.00 recommend.....that saves me a lot ofmoney right their. besides the butt connectors which i have,where can i get some pins(correct size) or are they universal..etc........
anyways,i just got to hunt for the A9P computer, and a MAF, i'll probably be able to get a MAF from a 3.8l the easiest. but was wondering if i have to watch out for a manual or auto MAF car???

would the a9p from a 89gt work for me....and in the future if i decide to swap to manual???
like whats the preferred ecu to use.... for my 88gt auto......(keep in mind i could swap to a t-5 in the future!)
ps. i also noticed that some of the interchangebale MAF's look like they will need an adapter plate or something.....

psssss..... i forgot i have a maf from my 90gt....lol....but i cant remebr if its any good......is their a way too test it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ford Fuel Injection sells the correct pins for like 10 cents each. Just get the EEC-IV pins. I got 10 just to make sure I had enough and a few spares.

I believe the Manual computer will work for both a manual and an auto...not completely sure on this, but there's been alot of discussion on this point so of you search I'm sure you'll find the answer.
