You may all openly mock me starting now. Or "how I blew close to 2 grand for nothing"
I get my car over here. I am driving it home from inspection when things go haywire. The car keeps stalling out on me. I call the guy who built the motor and explained what was happening.
Him: "Well, it is tough to say but what you are describing could be a problem with the ignition."
In fact, the points were all screwed up in the dizzy and the inspector noted this.
Me: "so what should I do?"
Him: "You have the old ignition and dizzy in there. You might as well upgrade them. I suggest an MSD 6AL ignition and a new MSD pro-billet dizzy. That might fix the problem, assuming the problem is with your ignition and dizzy."
So I order those parts along with wires. After the purchase price, shipping from the US to here, 30% in duty and VAT, I have paid in excess of $1,000.
I install these parts and start her up. Take her on the the road. Same thing as before. Car just dies out. I have to pull over, wait a min or two, and then start up only to die off.
I solicit advice here and there. I am told by some, including folks here to consider a new fuel pump. I order a new Holley Blue along with a fuel log. Purchase price, shipping, duty and vat bring this to almost $500. I have it installed. That is not cheap either. The shop starts it up. Runs like a raped ape on the dyno. Then they road test it and the car sputters and dies.
The shope goes through a list. the carb is new, the lines are new, the log is new, the fuel pump is new. They guess that the fuel sender is bad. I order a new one from MU. I tell them I need it ASAP so I can make a race in Bitburg. Please send it Global Express mail. Well, they send it but w/o a post code, something I told them was crucial for getting packages delivered here. (Two weeks later, it is still no where to be found). Knowing that the package would be very much delayed, I am forced to order a new one. I cannot trust MU not to F up again so I order from LMM. I tell them to ship it Global Express. They ship it Global Express Guaranteed, which is twice as expensive as GLobeal Express. I pay $30 for the part and $55 for the postage. I have already paid $65 for the same part from MU, which is still nowhere in sight. I finally get it and rush it to the shop. Turns out that the carb was getting way too much fuel pressure and this was blasting the needles into a stuck position. This was my problem from day one. All I needed was a $23 Holley Max Pressure Fuel Regulator. Sigh. I hate myself. I would have much rather spent the money on the new paint job, which is once again put off do to my spuriorous deductions and proflagrat spending.
