I need your thoughts about ... How much HP is needed for a Street Combo!
We all want more ... that is a given ... but ... I'd like some serious input here please.
Here is how this thread came to be.
Went out to eat the other night with high school gear head bud who has been out of the Stang hobby for a good while now. He told me he had an 86 coupe he was gonna play around with.
He wanted to talk about these options for a Street Application:
OEM block with nothing but a bore clean up (306 ci) and just the basics like strong rod bolts, bearings, rings, and the like but no blueprint or balance.
At this point I asked him if he had thoughts of a Forced Induction combo
He said he liked Pro Charger's blower and was considering it
Now ... here is where I will get all of you involved in this by asking you the Question my friend then asked me.
How much HP is enough for a Street Car?
Please understand something here ...
This was asked by a fellow that has a lot of experience in building up many Old School cars but knows things have changed a whole lot these days.
He understands all too well basic facts like:
High HP needs a driveline that will support that amount of abuse
OEM driveline parts no longer are built like old top loader 4 speed & 9" rear ends
Tuning no longer can be done with a little box of dizzy springs and carb jets
About the only thing he was certain about was he wanted no turbo or juice
He has driven my Stang several times and I told him my motor and driveline in his light Coupe (very light ... btw) would have to feel like adding somewhere in the range of 50 to 75 more rwhp to my car IMHO
So ... there you kinda have our topic of discussion for a 306 NA combo option with a focus of ... the best bang for the buck spent.
I then told him that Pro Charger he liked could easily add enough power to split that OEM block 306 combo right down the middle.
At this point we talked about how 400-450 rwhp is just about the limit for the 5.0 block and that is if a good amount of common sense is kept in mind along with a good tune.
He looked at me and said ... You got 300 to the wheels with your 95 and are telling me a blower could take it to mid 400's?
Again ... He asked me the same HP Question ... but this time ... a bit differently
How much is practical for a Street Car?
Well ... Now it is your turn ... Give me some of your thoughts ... If you please
and
For now ... Please keep it to an OEM block or fresh 306 as described above.
I hope to get some insightful input from those of you who are blown at 400rwhp or above.

It would be fun in a 94/95, Stang, though.
