im just curious, i dont want to be bold and create a catback combo i hate!!!!!!!
but here is a ? that should be easily answered, which one is louder stock for stock.
(?1)If you bolted a X-pipe to stock shorties vs. A h-pipe to stockers????
(2) is flowmaster american thunder louder o then mac flowpaths catback? or vice versa, pretty much if you had to pick to match up with a x-pipe would it be flowmaster or MACs?

i heard a 5.0 cougar stock with long tubes with x-pipe with no cat-back(project car) and it was so much quieter then my 5.0 with stock shorties and h-pipe.

my questions are arising from new research and hearing cars in person; so im still trying to buy a catback, i thought i wanted magnafows, but they were to quite! then i thought i wantd LM's but i think they are more noise, which is good but the tone is just obnoxious. im going for decibals but want to have a respectable note of exhaust. i don't mind loud, but it needs harmony. :flag:
so now im thinking some mac shorties. x-pipe and mac flowpaths or american thunders. but everyone keeps telling me to stay away from chambers with an X-pipe:shrug: but i cant find no videos or soundclips to pull me away from the idea that i might like it!
i like the gurgle mean growl that is easily attainable form the 5.0s, kinda like my adored 4.6( i know i know, you never can have a 5.0 sound like a 4.6!!!!!!) but n-ewyas help me out

im going with flow paths in spring...im getting reallt tired of the flowmaster.

mac shorties

right now i have 3 chamber flows and the sound is nice but its gotten really boring...not to mention to tame.

here was before i put on the headers changed the sound a good bit in person.

mac pro chamberflowmaster2.73

after headers

MAC Shorty HeadersMAC Pro ChamberFlowmasteri have under $250 wrapped up in the whole full exhaust.

My Flows are starting to really drone @ 70 mph so I would go with MACs they seem to have less drone and have a nice deep tone.

There's not really any VOLUME difference between an off-road H-pipe and an off-road X-pipe; rather, it's the TONE that you get which is different between the two. The X-pipe tends to be more raspy at high-RPM WOT runs, whereas the H-pipe tends to have more "burble" and old-school low-end-RPM rumble.

Whichever of the two you decide to go with depends on what kind of mufflers you put behind it. FWIW, Dynomax Super Turbos actually sound decent behind an off-road H, but sound like crap behind an off-road X; likewise, Pypes Violators sound AWESOME behind an off-road X (think NASCAR), but would likely sound like poo behind an off-road H (think nasty old pickup truck).

Really, piecing together your own cat-back is the best way to go. Buy whatever X or H you want, get some 2.5" tailpipes and flowtubes from Dynomax or Flowmaster (or MAC, or whomever you prefer), and then slap on a pair of whatever muffs you want to match your midpipe. Really, the midpipe plays the biggest role in determining how your cat-back will sound. Running longtube headers will kill the sound of just about ANY muffler, as they generally seem to quiet things down ... but if that's what you're going for, then you can't do much better than LT's with a shorty H-pipe and Super Turbos - has a low growl and some light burble, but sounds incredibly smooth and not raspy at all (which some folks prefer, helps with the sleeper look).

Stock shorties, as I've found, actually make for some friggin' LOUD exhaust combinations. Try starting your ride up with stock shorties and just an off-road X- or H-pipe behind it and no muffs, and you'll see what I mean - OBNOXIOUSLY loud sound. :D

I have Bassani Equal Lengths into a MAC X into a MAC cat back. By far my favorite setup. Me and all my buddies have MAC mufflers, theres 8 cars in my town and all have different combos ranging from 3 inch to 2 1/2, and prochamer or H or x or shorties or equal lengths or long tubes and they all sound awesome. MAC is the best muffler on the market in my opinion. The quality and longevity is also outstanding.
Here's two vids of my car. Dont mind my stupidity in the second video lol.
