We'll see if I keep this one for more than a week.

Lifted it from a '95 F-series at the local Pull-A-Part. Some gentleman (men?) had already taken the trans, both front fenders, and the front clip, which of course made pulling it an absolute walk in the park. I'm surprised the engine was even still there, around here roller 351s disappear faster than female pronz stars after they hit 30.

Anyway, it turns over easy, still has OEM stickers on the block (indicating no previous rebuilds), and I lifted a valve cover and it looked clean inside. Hopefully it ain't junk.

More pics to come during the tear-down.

Nice. I was starting to wonder if you had side lined the 351 build. I assume you are swapping your heads over? What else in store?

You know, I'm not entirely sure. This is going to be a slow build as I find parts and as money allows. I know this sounds like the cocaine talking, but I think it would be cool to hog out the stock truck lower and scratch build a box upper for it. I've always kind of wanted to build a custom box intake, and I've never really dabbled into porting, so it would be kind of fun. Not sure if that's entirely feasible; I'm going to try to get in touch with tmoss about it. If not, I'll just buy a TFS-R lower for it.

I like the seatbelt engine lift straps. That's being resourceful right there.

That was at the suggestion of a gentleman by the name of T-Bone at the JY, haha. He was the fork lift operator that helped up drop the engine in the back of my buddy's truck. It actually is a really great idea, the buckle allows you to quickly get the webbing out of the way, and the web end fittings can bolt to whatever you need on the engine (exhaust bolt holes, in this case). Plus, healthy web should support a few thousand pounds before breaking (maybe not so much this sun bleached lap belt we pulled from that old Escort, LOL).

Couple shots of the tear down so far. Nothing exciting yet.

Check this out- all of the spark plugs were way past due for replacement, but a couple of them had almost 1/8" gap. Electrode almost completely gone. The truck must have ran like garbage.

Yikes! I sheared off the spark plug heads on my 1st engine build 30 years ago. o_O Didn't want to do a conventional build and attempted a home brew boss 302 setup. The engine actually ran really well, drove across country (midwest to AZ.) before I finally ate a valve. Of course I didn't have a clue about valve clearance etc. and to make it worse putting canted valve heads on inline block didn't help with the huge solid cam. Funny when I think back on it.

sell the trick flow stuff and buy a victor efi and you will make more power and probably have money left over.

Yanked the heads!... That's what she said(?)

Measured all 8 bores at 4.000", so it's a virgin block! Woo Hoo! No visual carnage anywhere so far, just very very grungy. Lots of carbon deposits on the pistons. Engine spins over super easily. All 16 lifters looked good too.
