Well, it's in primer and am fixing a little on the nose that I knew needed it. I just couldn't see it with all of the surrounding bondo. It looks a bit better now.

So then,......How much Bondo was slathered on the hood in total?

For the folks that don't know how much has to be put on in order to leave a smooth surface vs how much comes back off when it's all said and done.

I used right at 3/4gl. I probably sanded about 1/3 of that amount off straightening it. So, a solid 1/2gl left on the hood.

That 1/3 amount coming off makes one hell of a mess, btw.

About six or seven pounds! I want to get some hydraulic shocks for the hood to get rid of the prop rod. Guess i'll need the heavy duty ones, huh?

I have some I'll send you....do you want them? New,...only installed once on a Fairmont hood that has had all of the internal bracing cut away?

Sure, are they pretty simple to install?

They are bolt on,....be advised,....they are the kind that have a lift strut that mounts to a bracket that is bolted under the hinge mounting surface. (between the hood, and the hinge)

Maybe it's on top, don't remember......

They push the hood up like mad at the rear. That may be "adjustable", and with some tinkering w/ that, you may be able to eliminate that push, but for me, they pushed the monsters hood up and required soo much effort to overcome the lift force I knew that I'd fck something up with the bodywork on my flimsy assed structureless hood.

With the bonus weight i've recently applied to my hood, strong shocks won't really be a bad thing.

You could use the hood for an exercise tool after you bolt it back on, lift the hood up and down 10 reps wait 1 minute, repeat for 3 or 4 sets, do that three times a day, than after a few months you can add more mud, sand and repeat.
It will 'pump u up'.

Even if you hadnt done all the metal work, I would be impressed that you got bondo that straight!

Ok, i know this is just another picture of a grey hood. I blocked it with 220 and it's turned out better than i might have expected it to. It's just straight as can be.

What's next? Tomorrow i'll flip it over and sand down all of those marks from the hammer hitting it and reseam seal it. Then, sometime next week, block it one last time with 320 and i'll shoot it at last! Geez! That was easy.....

BTW, anyone know where to get an emissions sticker? I removed the old one obviously.

Amazing. Last hood I did that was bent up that badly took me a month to block out flat.

Ok, i looked into it. They only sell to body shops, fortunately i work in one! I'll ask at work tomorrow, i'm not sure where they get their labels from.
