Nah, hell, I'm a lemming and proud of it.

I want either a 5.0 or a b&s'd 351. Can't afford the 351, so onward little 5.0.

Dont mind @madmike1157 . Not everyone is a part of the "I'll work on this thing the rest of my life to be one of a kind" group. Some of us dont mind being a part of the "proven reliable and enjoyable" group. And some of us also prefer the V8 sound to that of a 6 banger of choice. No shame, to each their own!

A kid in my neighborhood just got a SN95 with nice wheels. Decent looking for a SN95 with some sort of shiny aftermarket exhaust. He drove by today as I was schlepping down the road in a pathetic attempt to get into shape. Thing is a 6-cyl auto. It sounded slow, out of breath, and weak. I thought it was the perfect soundtrack for my old overweight ass trying to run. I vote 5.0 if you don't want to picture a bald 50 year old that looks like he's smuggling a bowling ball trying to relive his glory days every time you drive it.

There wasn't any doubt that I was going to swap to at least a 5.0.

I was going to get the V6 running just till I could collect all the parts necessary for the swap. DEFINITELY not a permanent thing at all.

The point for me all along is wether I wanted to blow intermediate money on the 5.0 when what it will have in the end is a 5.8.

The answer for me is probably yes, I will blow that money. The car will just sound better even though it's bite won't really match it's bark.

Idk though, there is some sort of satisfying thing to me about getting the original engine running even if it's life in the car will be short term.

Plus, it would allow the 351 to have more money spent on it that wouldn't be wasted on the 5.0.

Luckily, it's still about three weeks out before I will be making the actual commitment. By then my red car will be out of the garage, I'll have my buddies p/u painted and the blue car will be safely ensconced in my storage unit. Then I can start the fun stuff again.

First order of business will be to put either the V6 or 5.0 on a stand and start tearing into it.

BTW, being a fifty something year old balding guy trying to relive his glory days is really about all I have left.....Joe Dirt, the Viagra Years.....:eek:

If it's a 5.8 your gonna do in the end why waste time and money on a 5.0?
Get that six popper to run and tool around with it while working towards the 5.8 install, or ditch the six and build it for 5.8, your gonna work the car over shooting for the bigger bullet anyway.

Now you gotta know that that just don't make no sense....

If the intent is to have a 351 based engine in there ultimately, and there is a potentially running engine in there that will serve as a bridge to get you there,..why in the hell would you invest jack in a middle man drivetrain that will come back out where the ONLY swappable part might be the heads?

I'm thinkin' if that 5.0 finds it's way under your hood,...That 5.0 will be there until the end of days..You'll HCI the thing,...You will talk yourself into augmenting that engine w/ a power adder,....tell yourself that "You've come this far" and before you know it....Boom!!!

You're part of the naval lint brigade.

JY 351's are out there...probably sitting right next to the highly coveted "inny" engine in an Explorer. When you are ready for it, I'd bet that a complete running 351 out of some F150 could be had for less than 500 bucks. Additionally there is probably gonna be a "351 deal" come along at some time between then and now too, and all you gotta be is in the right place when that happens... (Kinda like being able to find, and buy the head that made the difference between a boring anemic I6, and what my engine has been able to become when the Crossflow head was offered to me)

Save up for your 351 Dave,..if that weanie assed 3.8 runs, I'd leave that turd in there for as long as it took to get the 351 accommodated so it'll take over as the real engine...it'll only be a short matter of time.

(Think of it as the 3.8 is Trump, and the 351 is Pence):)

Driving and painted, sounds like a good plan.

I really don't have the money for the drivetrain upgrade anyhow.

I will pull the mighty Essex out of it and clean it up. Change out a few of the worn parts, maybe paint the block, then I'll be riding high on 108 ponies at the crank!

After I'm driving it, then I'll be able to focus money on a drivetrain upgrade.
