Build Thread '83 T-top Coupe - Welding Holes in My Rear

I'm not knocking the guys with big horsepower, it's just that this car will really be my dd.

Hitting the snow in February will be challenging enough with 350lbft of torque. Heck, hitting wet streets will be enough.

But at that level, I can feather the throttle and still make it on shtty days.

Who knows what a few years down the road will bring though. I would love to have a "fun" car that stays in the garage during bad weather and tear up the roads on nice days. 700hp sounds pretty sweet for that type of car.

Right now though, I have cheap access to a supercoupe drivetrain, and I like that idea.
YGB:nice:

There's truth in what you say Clay.

I think why I like it is that this car will be a daily driver that i would be perfectly happy with 325lbft of torque. I'm not really worried about the HP number. I'm NOT racing a t-top coupe.

Obviously this would be a much easier accomplishment with a 351 like I was hot and heavy for earlier.....:nonono:

Had God decided to not make my finances pure sht for the last year this conversation would be moot. I would have already been up to my a**hole and elbows in a 351 and the blue car would be close to being done.

But since opportunity has given me a chance to be more frugal than I already have been, I was going to just get the little Essex running. And for the first time I can remember, @RaggedGT didn't give me the idea for something i wanted to do...:owned:.

At that point, I'm stuck with a mighty 108 at the crank HP, pretty terrifying, huh? Then I thought about that turbocoupe t-bird that used to sit by my car. So I thought I would ask the yard owner if he had any supercoupes. He has several. He will part out one that has a blown head gasket, easy peasy fix.

So,here I am buddy. It will be different. Not @madmike1157 different, yet, not the usual.

And later, if I have money again, I can throw all sorts of money at that engine! Holy crap! There's craploads of aftermarket hi-po stuff for them.
I just hate the 3.8. If it didn't mean even more work for you i would say a 2.3t would be the better motor, but since this one is at your disposal i look forward to pics.

Dave, let me know if you need anything modded on the blower.... I can either port your blower or send you mine. I would need your blower inlet to make the mod to it so it matches the modded case.
Thanks Steve, I'll be talking to you in depth about this when I can get things happening.

I've seen a few places that will rebuild and port the blower, it costs about $600 though.

Plenty of people have put 5 speeds in automatic cars without changing the computer. I've done it for people several times. Your blue car is a stick so the reverse light wiring and speedo gears stay the same. They are both v6 so the tach should be fine also.

I'm not sure of the different pin outs from your t top to a super coupe computer. The ecu pin out info is in my shed....I'll dig it out for you tomorrow.

The engine harness is almost a stand alone system with only a few wires that connect to the dash harness. Those wires are for ignition power, neutral safety switch, brake switch, etc.

You've got this, Dave.

You realize that the blue car just might make it I'm a magazine with your restoration and a cool supercharged 3.8. This one just might make you famous.....mustang famous.

I got to look into the whole computer thingy a little more seriously. I'll be swapping out almost the entire wiring harness into the blue car.

I'm going back to the yard this week sometime to look over the donor car. I'll get pictures.

Being "mustang famous" or any kind of "famous" is close to number one on my least desirable list.

Besides, it feels like I'm making this into Scott's @RacEoHolic330 build, except it will have a slight name change...."How to spend 5 years and 5 thousand dollars...."

The supercoupe is a six cylinder though....I appreciate the offer.

I'll get ahold of Scott @90sickfox when the time comes and get him to walk me through it.
Ok, I get mixed up easily, try'm to find a home for this 84 svt and my thoughts get overlaped once in a while, need a reboot.

Whatever are you on about?

When You go back to post #1....It's barely been a year yet..and even then, it's just by a matter of days.

If you had to pay to have that car painted at the caliber of it's re-paint,...THAT ALONE would be well over 5k.
If you have anything less than 10k in this car when it's done, (whenever that'll be) consider it a victory.

I just looked into collectors car insurance for the Monster,...I had to give a dollar guestimate on it's value..
How do you even take a stab at that, given the amount of work that has been done to that car?

I guessed 30k...(not that there is that much in the car,..but the body mods....I have no idea)

By nature of the beast Dave, 10k in one of these cars is almost a given if it gets the typical wheel tire, and suspension/ braking upgrades that we all do.

Course, you'll have to factor how many times you'll be replacing T5's, those things will add up quick.
