Build Thread The Hoopty Chronicles - New House, New garage, New Car?

It’s personal preference really. Do you want to? If you answer yes more freely with your own questions..then choose that option.
Honestly, I need whatever option is going to get me running again the fastest/easiest. I'm going to try drilling out the broken bit again tonight with a cobalt bit and if it doesn't work, I'll have no choice but to get the P heads cleaned up.

If they are cheap enough-maybe a good option?

Then maybe you could sell off your other P heads, and the e7’s for that matter lol

That’s a loooong ways away. I’m just gonna get a valve job on my heads and put them back together as cheaply as I can. That’s the plan for now at least.

I went into the garage last night and spent 5 mins working on the car then quit to go for a bike ride instead. It was a solid choice.

Collin, protect yourself from yourself, I vote option D. However, if you can't get the broken bolts out then I agree with installing the P heads.
I was prepared to execute that plan until the drill bit broke off in the head. I'm going to see how cheaply I can pull all this together. For the record, I am NOT excited about any of this work, but I need my truck running ASAP.

I had this same thing happen when my oil pan bolts sheared off in the block. I tried the reverse drill bits which was a fail, then tried drilling out the old bolt which resulted in snapping off the drill bit in the sheared bolt. I finally said screw it and drilled the entire hole out and installed threaded locking inserts. They were easy and took very little time.

I had the rear most exhaust bolts snap off in both heads of my 5.3 avalanche when I was replacing lifters. Took them to napa, and they used a(n) EDM (I think thats what they called it) to get rid of the broken bolts.

i picked up another set of ready to run heads this weekend for the truck. I’ll elaborate in the morning when I’m at the office pretending to work. But yeah.

The good is it didn’t take much effort to clean them up.

And we learned about valve lapping

These heads so far have been anything but "ready to run". They were nasty, full of water, and in various states of disrepair.

The good news is that the bowls have had a little cleaning and should flow a little better:

The bad news is the seals are most likely bad, the shims are absolutely toast. This thing was probably run on a carb motor as well.

But it cleaned up.

If this were anything other than a beater old truck, I'd have a serious valve job, change the springs, and have them decked a little, but the truck is no race car and may be on limited days in my possesion.

Truck is getting closer to being done so I can get back on the Mustang.

Probably need an explorer or mustang throttle cable. Apparently nobody in the history of the internet has done this swap and documented it, which I find impossible to believe. I'll keep looking. Not sure what to do with some of the vacuum lines.
