Ok, I got the eb handle “mod” done. That’s green etch primer. Same as the grey I’ve been using, just green, pretty cool coincidence, huh?
Proof that the eb handle fits, notice the pan is inside the car for keepers this time. My welding holes line up reasonably well too

I also need to go ahead and get these puppies up under there before I go nuts welding.

That's awesome Dave! Make sure you get the seat mounts on there before welding anything in... get it all where you want it then spot weld in place. Not sure why I'm telling you all the things you already know, but it never hurts to have a gentle reminder. 
I did do the seat mounts next.
I was going to start spot welding the pan in, but I forgot to clean the weld thru primer off of the welding areas. So tomorrow I'll start the "Spot Weld Odyssey ". I'll shift the floor panel around so I can do a quick grinding of the weld area, I've got a nifty handle in the middle of the pan to help me out now
.Shoot, it's only a couple hundred areas to clean up

By wednesday I want to start the ladder bar system. It won't seem to exciting at first though. I'll be grinding my free 1x1 tubing to get them back to being pretty shiny metal.
All I have standing in my way is 204 little spot welds......

I thought thats what 'weld thru' primer was for, so you didn't have to have bare metal in between the welds, the only thing I know about welding is it don't work on wood.
Yeah, from my understanding, the theory is that the zinc (or copper in my case) will mix in the weld puddle and everything will be wonderful.
There may be those that have this special koom by ya moment with weld through primer, but they probably have a 220v power source in their shops. My little welder doesn't have enough power I guess to "weld thru" the primer.
There's a whole rant behind this that will take a long time to type out. I'm not going to do it here. Maybe in the painting 101 thread.
I see weld thru primer as a coating that doesn't burn off up close to the weld spots between the two pieces of metal being welded. It's just additional protection that I can give old Booger boy
It's really not though. It is mostly metal and a binder that in theory begins to flow under the 2000* heat of a weld arc instead of vaporizing.
It just doesn't for me, or my friends, or the car manufacturers.
I won't "weld thru" it. Though it seems to be a great coating up close to a weld.
I think, me personally now, nothing should be between the two metal pieces you want to bond together. Clean metal to clean metal.

Not more than a fleeting moment truthfully.
Assuming I go in tank pump (and I believe I will), then it wouldn’t be a bad idea.
I don't hate weld through, I think it has a sound principle in the areas close to the weld. If the metal in it really does melt due to the heat of the arc, I can see how it would coat the immediate areas close to the welds in a non corroding coating instead of leaving that area as bare steel.
Regardless to my use of it, I will still coat everything with POR15 and then two coats of undercoating on the bottom of the floorpan and at least POR15 and maybe a paint job on the top side. Perhaps even some type of sprayable sound coating too. The welds will see a pretty serious protective coating.

You should use the GM chronicles as a guide Dave,.....Several external pump(s) fuel injection, cavitation, and heat made for several almost stranded sessions on the side of the road for the monster. What didn't strand me, resulted in one noisy assed, howling pump after 20 minutes of driving.
Since the installation of the in tank pump, all of that is gone. and having an access panel in the trunk floor is a no-brainier.

51 one down and the passenger footwell area is solid!
Some of those spotwelds may look a little large, the holes weren’t as favorably lined up as the driver’s side and may have required a small bit of extra drilling.
