Progress Thread Pearl To White - Paint Time

After some research it looks like I need to order some Daniel Carpenter weatherstrip and ditch the old LMR ones I bought a long time ago. Is Blue Oval Industries still the go to for them?

LMR lights came in. Not happy with the quality. Waiting for them to respond back. Was just the side markers that were bad.

The rear bumper has a sag in the middle under the license plate. Is there a way to straighten it back out? I know LMR sells a support piece but they are out of stock. Here is a pic I took a while back.

I got mine from LMR. At their time they sold two brands. Their house brand and the DC weatherstrip. Unsure if they still offer this.

It's been on the car 2-3 years and I have zero complaints. I did their doors and hatch. First few months it was a bit tight but it relaxed and is perfect now.

Sucks about the lights. Some people advise putting some silicone in the edges if the car is going to see a lot of rain/water. I’m pretty sure everyone is selling lights from the same manufacturer.
I think NPD sells a pretty big line if Daniel Carpenter stuff as well.

LMR sent me out another set quickly, great customer service. The other set they sent are exactly like the ones pictured above. So not sure what is going on with them. They are sealed though, in the pics it looks like the areas that are separated would allow water to easily get inside the lights. I plan on stopping by the body shop today and will compare them to my old lights. Emailed LMR about them and waiting on their response.

Not sure if I'm going to end up getting my car done. I stopped by the shop Friday afternoon to drop off some money for a down payment. The owner started talking to me and told me about how the the ground effects had multiple layers of paint and was going to require lots of work to get them sanded down correctly. He's talking about all the plastic parts (bumpers, side skirts, spats, etc.) Asked me if there was a place to buy new ones and I just told him it's not an option for me right now. Seems like every time I stop by there he wants to point out things to charge more money. I already agreed to pay the extra amount for the rust repair even though it was supposed to be included in the original price that was given to me by the shop manager. When I agreed to pay the extra amount I asked the shop manager if this price of $5K cash will be the total out the door price for everything and he replied with yes and that the job would be done correctly and look good. I'm going over there later today and just trying to prepare myself for what's next. If more money is going to be asked from me I'll most likely just ask them to put it back together and I'll take it back home. Not sure how much the $5K out the door price the manager told me will hold true.

I sympathise with the shop manager but I also understand your side, even being 'out of the game' for many decades I knew 5k was not an accurate estamate for the work you need done. Go pickup your car and reevaluate your options.

Thanks, I do know that $5K is a good deal if they can do it for that price and the only reason I opted to take it to them this early was due to the deal I was getting. If they would have told me $6K or more then I would have waited longer until I saved that amount. They did do my buddies car for $4K which included everything mine is in need of except for the rust repair. Car came our pretty good too. I guess will have to see what they say today.

That's the difference..... and it's a big one.

$1000 for that rust repair seems like a bargain for what you want done (jamb replacement and stuff). Maybe even a little too much of a bargain.

It kinda doesn't sound like enough hours to do it like it should be done.... don't want them cutting corners and doing it too quickly, in the name of profits/time expended.

Pick it up, and come up with a new plan, imo.

Stopped by and the owner wasn’t there so spoke with the body man who is good friends with my uncle. We spoke about the car and then the owner showed up. He showed me the door after they removed the out door molding and how much paint build up was on the car. Said something how they’re going to have to sand, prime, sand again then paint. The body man didn’t really think too much about it, like it’s not that big of a deal. They didn’t say anything about more money so started talking with the body man again. Told him about all the parts I have new and said I should probably get a rear bumper due to mine having lots of spider cracks and the sagging of it. Will a new bumper cover fix the sagging if using the original support bracket?

that's doing the job half way,

I'll say it again, take the car home, if you let them do this for that money you will regret it later.
Your car, do what you want.

Issue is that the car is apart already. Would it be a wise idea to offer more money to them? The same body man and his brother painted another friend of mine Fox Body. All three of them are good friends and they charged him $5500 but used house of kolor candy paint which isn’t cheap. Was a color change. They did a great job on it.

Any of you guys have any experience with one of these kits?

I've known people to use that bumper brace and it works. Stiffens it up a lot and gets the sag out after sitting in the hot sun for a while.
