New to me :poo:box 79 coupe, has a good T5, running 302 ( not well) and 8.8 swap though it runs and drives like a turd. $2200 drove it home, no real rot I can't fix, I have plenty of parts from previous fox bodies and its about what rollers go for plus has some ok parts so I bought it . Right now its chilling at my brothers since I got too many ugly beaters at home. Definitely needs a good going over, return the interior to stock, pick a cheap sold color from Kirker to paint it and my 93 beater. Hopefully I can save the painted chrome trim. Sell off the welds and maybe the pace car clip/hood if I can snag some 86 stuff cheap. Its dog :poo: slow, pops and farts on decel, rides like ass, has a hei on it, Holley 750, didn't really look over the motor much. I have aluminum heads and few cams etc to swap over probably do rings and bearings once I tear into and also fix up the suspension. Throttle is stiff as hell, same for the clutch.

8.8 is said to be 31 spline 3.73 and mini spool but highway tells me its 2.73 and prob a welded diff. If it's
' 31 spline all ready go gears and a trac lok ready to go in. Has old comp adj. Shocks, those cheapy China red lower control arms, China camber plates and what looks like upr adj uppers with heims on both ends rides like pure ass..

Question is do I clean it up, turn it into a 11 sec cruiser, probably flip in after or tin can it since its a stripper car and see how fast I can go with a potatoe chip 5psd 302 nitrous combo.

Looks like it's been sitting a bit.

I like that retro-cowl almost as much as I hate the LED headlights. :rlaugh:
Its $2200 in NJ can't be too picky, dude was driving it but yeah needs to be un **** for certain things for me too. some of the pics are old from his add, had a video with out the hei and cut strut brace, but pooling coolant on the timing cover . he owned it since 2010 and came from md. I think its a truck 302 with 87-93 accessories, it really is a turd like slower then a stock 90-93 car. I might just use the 93 as a donor and slap the carb stuff in that since it a 4cyl vin someone did a decent conversion on, and I will take a coupe over a hatch any day. The 79 pace car hood and bumper might be worth selling have to see what people asking for them these days.

Sure I can fix it first if you want it lol... Its just a chopped bbk to clear the hei cap I didn't do it. And it ain't staying, no need with skinnies and slicks
Yeah, I was being sarcastic.
Not worth the Shipping.
I would be interested in how much money you spend to get an 11 sec ride out of that.
Do a build thread.

Sooo many things just wrong with that car. Just me but I would remove the entire drive train and go through all of it. One thing I saw was the clutch cable is routed wrong so if you can fix that take it for a spin and see if the clutch works better. Oh, and that f'n air cleaner...

so was I , its going in the scrap pile unless someone wants to sleeve and fix which would be easy if you can weld.

As for 11's Not as much as you think, unless you count my labor. I've played with enough cheap China aluminum heads and cheap shelf cams to have a stock pile of parts. all ready have the china 11/32 valved afr enforcer dart clone castings and dart branded 205 afr clones from Steven sun laying around with good hardware in them. promaxx, atk and and Floteck brand them as there 205- 210cc head and sell them well above a grand with worse hardware. I have less that a grand in each set of heads, probably use the enforcer casting on it since I have a stroker I was going to use the 205's on. Both are set up using the older LS style 150 lb installed height dual spring kits, dart sells the 205 casting the cheapest assembled at $599 each now though. Would be pretty easy with The current carb and this thing at 2800lbs or less NA. I'm betting its on the lighter side for a fox body most 85 below are. A cam swap, gear/ diff swap and head swap would put even a stock bottem end truck 302 in the 11' s with traction and good shifting, wouldn't be the first stock bottem end I fly cut the pistons on still in the motor if needed. Owner said its got a spec clutch in it but haven't checked yet and its a wc t5 that shifts well. Hopefully its rebuilt with a cluster support in it.

Just need to grab a used nitrous plate for a $100 or so and maybe a timing kit if i used my last one. pretty much have the rest in my parts pile to add a power adder. I got plenty of efi nitrous parts all ready to make a plate kit work and get it into 10's on the bottle, just no current 4150 nitrous plates. Cecil would definitely boot me after a nitrous pass though since I don't really want to throw a cage in it and rarely go to the tracks since atco closed. a Carb set up is less weigh and generally carry more rpm over upper / lower efi set ups and I've done that plenty of times with those at more weight, I've got 25 plus years of owning too many fox bodies and hoarding :poo:. If I had to buy stuff new it would get a junk ls or coyote since I have k members and tremec's that will fit both. New sbf parts prices are bat :poo: crazy now, so buying new would suck, $500 shelf cams for stuff I picked up for $100 or less years ago. I just have picked up any fox projects until now since pricing went crazy after covid.

Right now it's work on it when I can and make it all one color, clean up the out side and interior at least for now, get it running right and figure out his wiring of stuff. probably just hit it with a DA, de trim it so I can get the paint off the chrome trim and use my surface finisher to strip most of what's there and primer it a consistent flat black until I pick a solid color so I won't get bitched at bringing it home I'm cheap so colors got to be something I like for both the coupe and my 93 gt probably Kirker or spi and a gallon of finish 1 clear. Brothers been in body work for 25 plus years so cheapy decent paint job is mostly labor and few hundred in supplies and maybe some bribe money for help .

"we c"? I knew you has some kind of magical stuff to make all your cars fast.
Idk it cut off half the post. "A week of uncluster:leghump:ing". I have a new cable and quadrant kit in my parts pile, need to grab a throttle linkage kit and maybe a gas pedal, its really screwed up can kind of see it in the interior shot. And you won't hear me calling my stuff fast, every body I use to hang with got a damn hair dryer, high end efi and big money trailers for there toys these days, I try to keep em slow enough to not need a cage go look at some NJ king of the blacktop videos. My wallet ain't big enough for fast stuff just cheap stock block driver :poo: that is fun and runs decent at the track.

Is any one really versed in the early ghia cars, pace cars or early cobras? Pretty sure it was a 79 ghia as the only missing " chrome" trim is the I guess belt line molding or beauty trim that runs under the mirror on the door. It runs from the quater to the front under the mirrior. The quater window peices are there but but spray bombed, both the doors are missing it, drives door looks to be original and passenger is a moddifed 87 up to fit the 79-82 handles, the rocker ghia trims missing but not really worried about that before painting. Don't really need to fill those holes if not there. Idk what they call it on the early cars but its the door trim thats I believe is separate from the outer door belt weather strip and trim. Pace cars and cobras had it in black ghia's had polished, stainless or I guess chrome not really sure what material it was and haven't messed with it yet. Not finding much with Google. I didn't see any evidence of it having a Vinyl Laundau Top. Tried face book but getting wrong info and many ppl just trying to buy the front clip cheap since those parts are not easy to find.

I guess I'm asking if that trim, if I can find it. will it work on the later model door predilled holes since the belt molding holes are a bit different, but the hardware that fits the old 79-81 trim lmr sells it. or do i weld them both up before paint and just ignor it? I remember reading it also works for 87- early 88 cars with the square belt molding retainers vs the round on 89-93 but can't find that info now. I can't find the trim, the part numbers it or even what to call it and pretty sure they don't repop them. Also seen this kit listed as 79-86 by some and 81-86 by others so not really sure what's different between 79-81 for the inner weather strip? , is it because it doesnt work with this trim or is the trim one piece and the retainer for the weather strip, I thought it was 2pc on cobras and pace cars and I've seen them use that kit on there pace car and cobra project.

I know at least 85-86 doors did not have holes for trim attached to the lip, not sure about 82-84 but ghias, cobras and pace cars did for 79-81

You can see the shiny trim on these ghia, it looks to be two prices to me on the door belt, one flat one vertical but I've never worked on one and can't find good pics. all of its spray bombed on this car. Buy pretty sure I can save it. The damn little options changes over the years are more screwed up then all the little efi engine harness changes they pulled from 89- 93 and its just as bad with the info out there

Found a better pic of someone else looking for them. So is two different trim pieces like the pace car just bright vs black. Need to find the part numbers for both still.

Forgot I had a new spare one of these tucked away in my totes of parts, gotta be almost 20yrs old now, guess its new old stock these days. gotta dig out a vaccum advance duraspark distributor and see if I remember how to wire all this old stuff up and dial in a carb, Ditch the fugly hei and deal with the wiring.

$1 Oven cleaner vs some cheap crusty stock sn95 wheels, just a quick soak, hit with a tire brush and a rinse. Didnt even touch the face of the rim. I'll hit the corrosion with a brass wire wheel, and sos pads after another oven cleaner soak and really clean them up if I use them.

Still Sorting out some parts. Just wanted to see how bad these where before I move them to the shed. thinking these with 5 lug swap up using 95 up stuff or stay 4 lug and blacked out 10 holes with a polished caps. Hopefully i can get some time spent on the car this weekend.

Well, managed to stop by my brothers where its at, he's a body guy not a mechanic and not as eager to work on it as me. Threw the the plates on it and spent a few mins looking it over a bit better then the yeah its a 302 t5 8.8 79 coupe with a soft drivers rail and pace car front clip after a short test drive.. Title claims the car is blue, I only see silver, find out when I pull interior I guess.

Front clips in great shape just fugly with the black lifting in spots, might be restolelum fog job vs rattle can, oven cleaner didn't crinkle it like it does to most spray can paint. bumper and hood both look to be silver or pewter under it so maybe off turbo pace car same for fenders but need to check more spots on those. Bumper has the double orangish pin stripe in side the molding, for got to check the fender molding.. it might clean up patina wise if I can get the flat black off it, have a couple tricks to try out on it. . Fogs are not marchel but everything's there in good shape for a body guy to clean up later on for another car, same for the spats and scoop, its definitely not staying on this beater.

The drivers door is blue, late model run channel trim on it so not 79, passenger is red looks to be an 88 but with the 79 trim swapped over both getting gutted if they stay on the car. Deck lids silver, not a straight lid like early 79's got so prob not orig, rear bumper metalic ish red 79-83, quarter trim looks orig. left a spot of oven cleaner to sit on some metal panels to see what it does sitting longer, no sign of blue on orig body unless I'm blind and the real pale blue that year just looks silver to me..

Looked over the rats nest and hei closer, that ain't an ho firing order. Need to bring my bore scope, still thinking late 80's,90's 302 truck motor but didn't check push rod length, need to pull the valve covers, A rocker and stick a scope in the valey and hope its a roller block, all my parts are pretty much for hydraulic roller so easy enough if it is, to low to crawl under it and check casting numbers and no room to work on it right now, I can still get a u pull it one for $250 if not at some yards I know if I have to. JUst want to keep it a running car when dealing with sprsy bomb for now, going to try and get everything from the front clip back to look uniform in in flat black for now minus the trim. The engine is probably a market place rattle can turd in there to replace what he blew up. Its runs and drives like it, but oil pressures good and no funny noises, carbs tune sucks ass, definitely needs a rebuild and it doesnt look like a recent at all swap but he owned it for years. should have cleaned up the rail while it was out though if that's what happened, has performer 289 intake, so could be an earlier engine. Not sure if he didn't know what parts he had or thought I would walk if he was honest, the parts its got plus a coupe chassis are worth it to me for what I paid. Roller or not a running stock bottem end 302 is worth about the same with iron ford heads..

Gas pedal Idk wtf that's about, doesnt even look like its from a mustang, definitely need to get a foxbody gas pedal and order an 85 cable.. Think my best option is to be looking for a cheap rotted donor 4 eye to replace the front clip, maybe doors, get the matching body trim and rear bumper cover from it plus some other parts for the interior if I can beat the part out guys to one. Strut rail rust doesn't bother me too much, I can fix that and have a fox rails kit and F2ZZ full aprons that won't be going on this. It's much cheapers then buying part by part with asking prices here or flebay , seen a few $800-2k asking price cars sitting with most of the parts I need. ppl are asking that for just ratty interiors, basic 302 core motors or T5 trans set ups out of cars like that here. Lot of what look to be decent 87-93 drivers getting parted by me but the asking prices are retarded for mostly wore out common junk, but someone must be buying it.

5 lug is looking out of budget with everything I'd have to buy after looking at it, and the work needed to fit a 79, since its pretty different from newer stuff with lines, booster, master, and rack if i used sn95 stuff maybe later on if a parts car has enough parts plus the suff I all ready got laying around.. Going to have to buy some Holley carb kits or a better used carb and go threw the fuel system. Holley got real proud of there stuff now and I have 0 stuff for tuning a carb any more, didn't see much searching local on market place.

Seats gotta go too, I got 92-93 i can throw in for now but no manual tracks
