Progress Thread “Rising from Ashes 5” 86 4 eye T-TOP notch build

Got the donor car stripped on down and hailed
Off for scrap. Below is the bulk of what we were after. When doing a t-top conversion you will need the t-top frame, t-top glass, moldings and door glass. I also cut some other t-top specific items out so I have a pattern to duplicate. Just for FYI....regular doors can be used and just cut the frame but I want a 100% correct conversion. So..

Wow...I see about 300 bucks worth of parts left on that car. I guess we know who has all the money here.

Yea. There’s more there but I bought it for $300 and sold $1,100 in parts and got all my donor parts for free so I get $100 more in scrap and I’m feeling pretty good about it.

Well, we have our car for this build in hand. So this is Now an 86 Notch build thread now
Kevin we just had two of these 86 t-tops come up for sale cheap.

I was contemplating buying it just because it came with extra glass but the top frame and glass won’t work on 87 up correct?

T top glass will not work in any hardtop unless you convert it to t-tops. The hardtop doors will work with t-tops and glass if you cut the top frame. It’s the same rules for 79-93. But if your buying the t-top cars for glass for a hardtop, it’s a no go

Okay I figured. The local ole man here did this car, but used an 87 donor for the frame and top glass. He cut the coupe top and Drilled, sealed, and riveted the frame in.

He cut the doors and changed out the door glass with I believe it was convertible.

Right that’s about how it’s done but I’ll be using all t-top parts and doors. The only thing I’m doing different from factory is I’m welding in the frame instead of rivets

Picked the new project up this morning. I looked for the one I could save. $300 bucks later and we are on our way. So for those keeping up. I’m plus $800 From the donor and a t-top conversion. I have a ton of parts to sell from the notch project. A 302 motor and 5 speed setup..Among other stuff. So I’m going to try to document how much is in iti

Knowing your OCD, your breaking the frame apart and refinishing were that water tends to get trapped.

Ole Man used the stainless rivets. Looking forward to this build.

Have you seen MachedUp just did an 86 coupe?

I’ve not but I don’t really have time for any social media stuff. Wish I did but every spare minute is dedicated to working. Except my stangnet time. Lol
