OK my question is like the title shows. We have a guy here that has a 2007 GT. He is an old school tech here, but has great knowledge on modern day stuff as well. He has installed gears, a CAI, and also had it tuned.
We had a guy bring in his 08 Bullit to show off. Great looking car as well. Green in color. This is what started our conversation.
It's me (93 GT) , him (tech works here 07GT), and then the other guy (Bullit). We are all standing there talking. I bring up the time I ran a 06 GT vert, 5sp on the 1/8th and that I beat him 7 outta 10 times. Not by a bunch though, but it does not matter if it's a bumper or a fender. A win is a win.
Now this is the actual question. The guy with the 07-GT, just smirked and said the other guy must not know how to drive the car if I beat him that many times. I told him I do think he knows how to drive because he had that 06-GT and also a 86GT 5-spd modded and hittn the juice. Our tech said nope he cant drive, that the 06 GT had I think he either said 60-80 more HP than mine, and that it would beat my Fox if someone knew how to drive it.
With yall's knowledge, is this true, can a lightly modded Fox not be able to beat a 05-07 GT. The only thing he had on the very were mufflers.
I have not run anymore of that style to compare, but I have run another 93 and a 92 Fox GT and beat them by a full car length almost. I then ran a 95 and beat him the same.

When I ran the 06, I had everything in my sig except headers. I ran a 9.2 @ best.
I have a vid clip to show the race between the 06 and me.

Is the tech right?

Sorry for the long post, but I thought I had something for a stock 05-07GT

an 05+ GT vert making stock power is a pig in my eyes, they're way too heavy... having driven both my 91 coupe and my grandfather's 06 GT vert, i'v had my foot in both and my coupe was much quicker off the line, but the 4.6 pulled harder on the top end... horsepower to weight ratio means a lot though

but it depends a lot on driver skills and traction, you'll probably pull on most stock form edge cars for the first half of the race but the 4.6 really wakes up on the top end in my experience

who knows post the video and we'll judge from there

300 hp @ 3600 lbs = 13.34 @ 102

vs

225 hp @ 3200 lbs = 14.11 @ 96

A 9.2 would be a mid to low 14.

Here's my take...

You guys would be fairly even in the 1/8. You are running about right at a 9.2-9.3 for your mods list. He really should still win by a hair, but it being a convertible adds 100lbs.

In the 1/4 I think he'd wax you.

I'll post it but it's @ night and you see us go by and see the light on my side 1st. Like I said I would not beat him by much, but I beat him. We checked the doors while we were out there and mine is about 400lbs less than the non-vert.

I know headers don't make a huge difference, but that was before those were installed and that was also with 245's on the back. It grabs much better with the 275's on back. I know those are not a big deal, but every little bit helps right?

Our GT went 13.7s bone stock... Maybe an 8.8 in the 1/8th for example.

Stock for stock - driver for driver, the 05+ will take you.

The 1/8th will be close but he is going to pull you good starting at the top of 2nd.

They are not as heavy as some think. They weigh in the 3400-3450 lb range (coupe/5spd).

Both of my LX's have been in the 3180-3200 lb range stock.

I get it in the 1/4, but we are talking the 1/8th. Someone said something about pulling me in 2nd gear? I think I actually pulled him in 2nd @ first, and then yes he would gain some toward the end of the gear. In the 1/8th I only use 3rd for a sec or so. I'm sure in the 1/4 I would of lost.
So from what I'm hearing you guys are stating this guy did not know how to drive that car??? And maybe I knew how to drive mine?????

Found this on my brothers web site...

8.933 in 1/8th into a 40 mph head/cross wind. Later that day the car ran better, but a leaf blew into the lane and tripped the beams early.

the 3V 4.6 is all top end. VERY soft on low end torque. Considering you are barely in 3rd by the end of the 1/8th it is safe to say that in a longer race, the 06 walks you the rest of the way but in the 1/8th you are still even enough to a point where it comes down to holeshot and launch.

I disagree.

Let's get a stock dyno graph of each and post them up.

You are below 3000 RPM for maybe a second.

I'm not sure if the 06s are soft in the bottom end, the tq just comes on smoother it seems. Out of the hole you can get an S197 car off the line fairly well. The track is tougher (from my couple of passes) but they aren't that bad. I have seen countless 1.9 60's on them!

It was always a close run either way. The point I was asking really was. did this guy not know how to drive that car. Or were the results What someone would expect?
I have never run in the 1/4 so I don't know what the time would be. Now I will tell you that the same night on a different run he did get a 9.0 out of his. But I also know that just because you have a faster time does not mean your the winner.

He was driving avrageI would say. Nw granted i don't know howfast your track is, elevation, prep, etc... but a stock 06 GT should go higher 8s in the 1/8th. Ors did so without ever learning how to drive it, and also did it one pass with a passenger.
