18" rims on dirt road???

would it be bad to get some chrome 18" saleens if i live on a dirt road. i have a 95 mustang GT and i wanna put some chrome 18's on it. either bullits or saleens, but i live a couple hundred feet down a dirt road and theres a lot of pot holes sometimes...would i still be able to put 18's on my car???

I can hear the dirt road jokes coming like a flock of geese.


I remember when i was a kid we lived 2 acres back off the road and our driveway was usually gravel, but more times than not in the summer it was MUD. So, i can relate with the "sometimes there's potholes" and i bet you mean "it's a pothole nightmare"...lol. I know all about the strategic driving and how to drive diagonal to better your chances of not ripping off your exhaust.

Anyways, i'd say unless there's rocks and stuff, you should be ok but maybe expect to have to clean them more often, especially when it does get muddy. Drive slow and easy and i don't see why you'd be any worse off than someone who lives in New Jersey and deals with street potholes all the time.

My brothers 18" rims were bent less than a few months after purchase on paved roads. You would have to go slow, be careful and clean them regularly, but I don't see why they wouldn't be fine.

My parents have a gravel uphill driveway, and I continuousely drove and still drive my 18"s rims up and down it! No issues as of yet!

If you drive really slow and avoid rocks and potholes you shoul dbe good....I personally wouldnt do it if it was me

Well the thing is, if your going to be at that location for many years, and your options are to get what you want and just be careful, or live with what you don't want, and be less careful...

Well to me it seems you would get what you want. I personally would have purchased my rims no matter what my street looked like.

Plus 18" wheels are teh sexor! <--- my first attempt at internet lingo.

Woooo heeeeey slow down there rookie. You can't just jump right into the sexor arena like that. You've gotta come in slow and easy with some orly and omgwtfbbq before you get crazy like that or else you're risking injury.

Also i agree...get what you want and just be careful.

I'd be concerned about the chrome chipping. Obviously bending is a concern, but you almost can't avoid rock spray on a dirt road.

That may be true, and i understand its hard to keep your car clean and especially chrome rims once u live on a dirt road. but my driveway is literally probably only 50 yards down the dirt road until it becomes paved. and my driveway is ashphalt. plus im 18 years old and a senior in high school. by next year ill be goin to college and stayn in an apartment so i wont have to worry about the dirt any more. im more worried about being able to keep my car and get enough money to buy a truck or somethiung for the winter since i live in michigan

i wouldn't waste money on some nice wheels if you have to drive on crap roads all the time, at least now it wouldn't matter if you ding one up, once you buy some rims you'll be obsessed with them. those rims you have now look like alero rims superbad.

Why not just do it, what the heck does a dirt road have to do with wheels, they will get dirt but no they wont bend or anything unless your pulling some dukes of hazards moves.

Just be careful as mentioned, especially since you said your going to be moving before long. you'll be fine. Just don't do crazy stuff to where rocks and dirt kick up fron the front wheels to the back and it'll be okay. As far as cleaning it's not worst then letting the rims get dirty from everyday driving (ie. brake dust)
