You need new spark plugs. period. I have heard absolutly nothing but bad things about the bosch platinum 4's, two over my friends had them and there car leaned wayy out. and look them up on the site and u wont find a good word about them. i actually bought a set, looked them up a little and said screw that and bought some autolite 25's from autozone for $7 definitly worth the effort :flag:
 
I have to disagree with daggar on this one those numbers are low. With just heads and a cam on my stock bottom end i put down 273/305 this was with stock TB, MAS, 19# inj, and intake....ditch those crap ass plugs as fast as you can, i have tried all the fancy plugs only to come back to cheap autolites. Do you have the correct length pushrods? Did you check the pushrod/ rocker angle when you set it up? Did you degree the cam or just install it dot to dot? What is your timing at?
 
it looks to be really dying off after 4000 rpm.......i'd think with those heads and that cam it should stay climbing till 5000......before it levels out......maybe it's too lean plus the plugs as suggested.....as i mentioned earlier your only about 15 hp off from where your totally in the ballpark so a couple little things may add up to that

Yeah... lots of people do. Still... I can't count the number of times I've seen it. Even on my own car. Right around 260 seems to be the magic number although there are certainly exceptions. I'd be interested in knowing what the cam was in your combo though. A similar setup to what the original poster has, along with a custom grind and custom tune would wake the whole thing up. Another thing that I noticed is that there's a track heat in combination with that relatively demure cam. Should make for some pretty lazy air going into that combo. I don't see much wrong with the other supporting mods listed. I don't see anything that talks about the valve train build though. Whaddya think Evil?

The cam that was in my old combo was a lunati 41015...very similar to the trick flow stage one but with more duration. As for the valvetrain maybe he's not getting full lift somehow...very unlikely but it's something. Looking at that dyno graph it almost looks like the cam was installed retarded...yet another shot in the dark but it's something. The trick flow heads are better than my edelbrock's ( back then had 1.9/1.6 valves )on my old combo, I'm just trying to figure out were the 40hp he's down went. Did he say what his timing is set to? I know the trick flow heads like alot of timing, but that should only acount for maybe 10hp.
 
17 air fuel ratio seems way to lean...and I would swap in some Autolite 25s or whatever ur heads call for...The +4 I dont like...They foul real easy cuz of such the tiny size of the tip and dont get as hot as the copper? Autolites. I would swap in some autolites and go from there, Have u checked the fuel pressure and timing?
 
what atmospheric conditions... altitude, humidity, temperature... you could have a cracked vac hose, anything... try another dyno, check vac lines and all gaskets, try motorcraft plugs... cheap and easy things to try...
 
Ditch the plugs. Have the a/f ratio bumped up to around 13.5:1 under full throttle. The numbers don't sound that bad. Dynojet's got a new load-based dyno that's very similar to Mustang dyno models. You may have had your car on one of those. Take it to the track and see what she does. Then we'll know if everything's right or not.

Edit: The 17.5 ratio is most likely at part throttle just before the gas was pressed. Look at the a/f charts and you'll see it hovers around 12.5:1
 
yeah the AF is at 17 only right before you hit the throttle, after that it richens up to around were its supposed to be. As far as pushrod length i have no idea, they are TrickFlow hardend pushrods going to a set of Ford racing 1.6 roller rockers. And I kind of get what your saying about the Track heat intake, but I figure since it was the Track Heat Cam that it would have been fine. Right now the timing is set at a base timing of aprox 12-13 degrees. It also has a half ass custom tune...
 
I am not sure how the engine was put together, as in how the cam was put in....retarded or not, same with everything else. I bought this engine and had it assembled while I was still in Iraq. Maybe the guy didnt like me to much cause I had to keep asking about the status of my engine was going...."this is after not hearing a word from the guy for 3 weeks after he got my money"

make sure you buy the right plugs too, i hear a bunch of stories of people buying stock plugs for aftermarket heads and the plugs are not sticking into far. I think if you get new plugs, tune your combo and check for vac leaks you should be where u are suppose to.
 
Ask your builder if he degreed your cam...THEN tell him your having some issues and are going to open her up a bit and look things over. By first getting an answer from him, you'll then either have him back pedaling a response once he knows your going to check, or confirm a lie when you do have the cam orientation checked(which I think you should).
 
I agree there should be more power there. Nobody should be happy with a 260 rwhp aluminum-head H/C/I combo. Like already mentioned, check for vacuum leaks and look into how that cam was installed. I have the exact same cam and I installed it straight-up. My AFR/TFS Stage 1 cam/Cobra intake/bolt-on 5.0 made 292/318 and it was completely untuned. You should be in that ballpark.
