I smoked the turkey and shared with the rest of the neighborhood. Got cranberrys, gravy and roasted vegetables in return. All in all...a great day!

Little late to the party, but hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving day yesterday! I was called into work for 4 hours then come home and made Thanksgiving dinner for myself and Neo. It's safe to say he was pretty thankful!

One of the last thing was reinstalling the cross member.
Of course 2 bolts are completely stripped and the other two are mostly stripped.
So I got longer shoulder bolts and nuts.
The cross member is tight for the first time in my ownership.

Under here is getting to be the cleanest part of the car.

After getting the fluid cooler flushed out I filled system with new and drove around block.

Low speed 'Clacking' seems to be gone.
None of the new stuff leaks
The pump in now leaking double time out the front pulley.
Still have the instant belt squeal when starting or stepping on the gas at any speed.

So pump is toast too, no surprise there. More 43 yr old crappola syndrome.
It is ordered and taking 2 weeks to ship here like always.

At least my custom line didn't leak, yet, fingers crossed.

If it means anything, I've not had that cross member in my car for over 20 years. I believe I still have it and I've thought about reinstalling it recently, but like so many other things I've just not gotten to it.

That crappy crossmember has been out of my car twice. It's just as hard to remove as it is to replace. But I suspect it's very important keeping the frame/body straight.

I think it keeps the strut mounts from folding up like a wet napkin mostly.

Posi in a Bucket

Waiting for the PS pump to drift across the Pacific ocean = boring

Used 8 inch posi in a bucket = much more exciting.

Smell the gear oil! Its a little burnt.
Comes with a opened rebuild kit and the new clutch pac is soaking in the friction modifier
I helped him instal his new locker and 3:80s in his 65 fastback and he tossed this dog the left over bones.
He also coughed up that Summit box with an 2:80 open 8 inch in it.

Some diligent searching and I found a lightly used 3:55 from OverstockDiff thats making its way here for the total sum of$78.53

I think all I need is a gasket, seal, and a pinion spacer crush sleeve.
I could have posi and gears in this Cobra2 for less than 150$ total (I hope)

Anyone got an exploded view of this posi?
I've looked on line and found some but not the one for this 8 incher.

He's got the Sunday got to church rims on it right now, sometimes its the Magnum500s big and littles, and sometimes the Torquethrusts

Don't quote me on this, but I think the 8" TracLok is essentially identical to the 9" - if that's the case, you should be able to get a real good idea with the 9" exploded view. Of course it won't be identical, but it should get you in the ball park.

Theres not that many pieces, so not so bad to reassemble but was more worried about what parts are missing.

Cleaned this radiator filter again. Every couple of weeks.
This old 289 engine block scales Alot of crapola.

Alright, the posi is a bust. The burnt carrier bearing races are spun and self welded on the the carrier.
Machine shop says not worth rebuilding.
My friend told me this before but I had stars in my eyes.
I'll just have to buy a posi if Santa doesn't bring me one.

Still no PS pump, slow boat shipping is just that, very slow.

I have no idea how bad it is. But can you just pre-cut the races and use a chisel to break them finally at that cut?

I'll make a guess that since the bearing race was spun enough to weld to the housing, even if you're able to remove the race the bore in the housing would be bad enough to not be able to accept a new race. The only solution to that would be to either re-bore that hole and sleeve it then bore the sleeve to accept the race OR weld the galled hole and bore the built up weld to accept the race. In any event I'd think it would be cost prohibitive given the man-hours involved to do all of that work. Now if you could do that kind of work yourself.......

That would be an instance where I wish I didn't change careers and still worked in a tool shop.

New trac loc is cheap by comparison to shop labor
Just need a new one.
I think some elf is carving a new trac loc out of a bock of wood right now!
Hey If they can carve a 64 bit gaming system out of wood, a posi should be a cake walk.
I've been so good this year, come on Santa please!

She may or may not be an elf, but the box is the right size.

Ordered PS pump on DEC2, still not here.
Payment went thru on CC statement.
So I go looking with the tracking number and the second I do, Pow Gmail message pops up saying "I" canceled and they refunded.

How does that work?

Usually when they say 'I cancelled' it is because the shipping they listed won't get it here and its almost instant.
3 weeks they leave me hanging?!?!
