Stumpy's Mustang II Traction Bars

Kid wanted to play with the car and I bought these at the start of the summer, and have been waiting for the right moment.

Breaking em out!

Decent packaging for shipping to Hawaii.
Nice powder coated pieces.
No left and right because the Mustang II has staggered rear shocks.
I think this is the new style? with some cal trac action?

Getting after them 45 year old bolts. PB Blaster time.

Son is sunburned one, He and his friend there went fishing today and son had a good fish story.
At Pokai bay they caught the small fish(8 to 12inches) with small whipping poles and hook them on the big hook / rod and toss em back in the school to catch the Uluas that were running thought the school.
He didn't catch em because the monk seal came and took his bait off the hook twice!
Then sat there and smiled at him to do it again.
Lol

Got this apart after some bolt fighting.
Rear end has the same oval hole on the leaf spring mount.
Will have to come up with a plate to weld in,
or leave top half of steel wrapped rubber in place and make a ring to hold leaf spring pin centered in large hole on Stumpy's bracket.
that piece of water pipe is the candidate for cutting ring out of, decent fit both ways but would have to tac weld in.

What else could happen here?
Larger leaf center pin?

He looks like he should have gotten a purple heart at some point. I wonder how much he's been compensated for his amputation.....

Because I want to get rid of the rubber isolaters and the rear axle mounting surface was wrapped, I welded two 10mm thick plates with center hole (matching the renewed leaf center pin; I used a M8 screw with cylinder head (DIN912) and washers to get the right height).
To center the lower bracket (where the lower shock mount is bolted to) I cut just the oval part of the rubber of the isolater, to help with centering.
Perhaps it is enough if you use your centering ring for mounting, doesn't need to be welded in...

Do you want to get rid of the isolaters or reuse them?

Congratulations Mod Dude!
I went fishing too and caught 7 of these. Just kept one for dinner. Smoke sky sunset.

I notice that you don't seem to be wrenching? There's a bonus to being Mod Dude.

What!?! and give up the 'little Lincoln ride' they advertised these cars with!?!

Yeah they got to go. I imagine the rubber will counter act the traction bars and make em less effective?

Not sure who the epic battle occurred with, but if he's trying to spider date the Black Widow, I gots bad news for him.
He'll lose more than a limb.

It is hard for me not to jump in and 'show em how to do it'.
But was glad they got to fight some stubborn bolts and persevere.
Want my kids to learn to overcome adversity.

Spent some quality time with the death wheel and cut my water pipe and made my spacer rings.
Had to grind more than just the galvanized off, theres a bit of taper involved.

EDIT ~This did not need to be done so DON"T, Stumpy has it right.

Made em fit tight, really tight. So I put them in the freezer for a while and it didn't seem to help at all.

Some love taps from the 2 lbs convincer and a couple of small tac welds.
Is reversible if needed. The fit on the axle center pin is tight now, they must of shrunk little.
Grateful for that little bit of luck.

Then brushed them with the Rustoleum twice because
Everything Rots here in the Jungle!

I saw some primer so not powder coated I guess?

I skipped from page 1&2 to here. She must be smiling because she thinks you are almost done. As if that ever happens.
Impressive.

Alright I went to bolt them spring plates on and right at the end it went POP!
Broke the tack welds and pushed the ring down.

It obviously keys on the washer and not the long bolt part.

Stumpy had it right.
I'm an idiot.

In my defense it keyed on the long nut when wrapped in rubber.

Lets not talk of this ever again.

Can I use my mod powers to delete my stupidity?

Ring is gone...but sheered a nice clean edge.

Sway bar bushing mounts.
I tried wire brush the broken bolt out but...
You can see the nut the kid scared up before he figured out it was welded from factory.

I drilled and tapped it and its back in business but slightly offset, should still work fine, for free hand driveway drilling.
