2Blue2's 1977 Cobra2 Driveway Build

Son phones me and says hey the Cobra engine is shaking and running ruff.

I’m glad that he developing a feel for her now that he is the main pilot.

Culprit ~ PS return hose filter was 30-40% cogged. Engine working hard to run PS pump.
Not much filtering area in that little bugger but its doing its job for sure.

Its a little fiddly with the spring, lock ring, magnet, and such but worth the money, again.
Pump and rack live for another day.

Wasn't that new and/or rebuilt recently? Seems to be a lot of metal.
Yes an the only original part left is the fluid cooler which I flushed twice. Once with each pump.
My belief is first replacement pump that failed is guilty of contaminating system.

Most of it is black rubber hair like crap with a tiny bit of metal stuck to magnet(not pictured).

Either way its not making me feel very confident or optimistic about future PS life span.

There is a bulletin to throw out that little one way valve
We used to find them on the floor and panic after a leaking line repair
Almost all of the early 2 piece racks leaked
The pressure hoses were updated twice and came with a little bag of fittings
I used to re install the little spring loaded valves until I read the bulletin
I agree it was probably debris from the pump
If worried install a power steering filter in a return line like a 96 Taurus had

Rear brake fluid is low again

Filling low condition for third time and wondering where that fluid has gone.

Jack it up and have quick look.

All seems dry and brake dust powdery black.
You can see where I lightly touched slave cylinder to determine quality of powder.
Follow all the lines back to MC and everything passes a visual check.
Cant figure out where that 1/4 to 1/2 cup of brake fluid from two refills has gone.

Maybe master cylinder has an internal leak? IDK

Noticed traction bar locknut has loosened again, time for locktite.

I have had to retighten that nut on the bars several times. The channel is so narrow it's hard to get a good turn on the nut.

I agree with 007. If you cannot find fluid anywhere else pull the master cylinder and check behind it for fluid. You may have enough movement you wont have to crack the lines loose. You can also pull the vent tube on the booster and use something for a dipstick and see it it's holding fluid or you can try to siphon it and see if you get fluid out.

There is a tree that I like and it turns yellow 2 or three times a year, so I took a picture.

This tree Only looks this way for a couple of days. As I was doing this,
The one legged neighbor across the street was waving and shouting to come over and I did.

He sported us these cobra valve stem caps and lock caps. Not that this car needs more badging it but he is a good egg with lots of enthusiasm that i appreciate.
I aint doing it but son might...

I dont know, but it makes me miss the season of Fall.
My guess ~ Tabebula ~ yellow trumpet flower?
I will have to ask if one will grow this far north.
We are getting a purple robe locust like this from a local nursery today.

I was curious, too, as I want to plant a few trees in my front yard. I found a website that says they are suitable in USDA planting zones 9B-11. So I looked up the zones and found that it's, at best, an 8 here in the Atlanta area. 9s and above are farther south and into Florida.

I got kinda excited too. Looking at a map, using the info above, it looks like I'm in the 8s as well. Everything would be fine until we get that one day of the year that it drops into the mid to low 20s.

Kid did his first Mod on his own!
Without telling me. Yes!
That means after a couple thousand miles, him and the car are truly bonding!
Just a pair of LED strips by arm rests, changes color, etc.

When we were young we called em dope lights or whore lights, right!?!

Got to get him a rebuild kit for the 4 bbl carb and manifold we got for this CobraII.
