Been a while....haven't been working on the II much... actually not at all.
This covid thing is making life difficult and expensive for me. Work has become MORE work lately too as I have had some staffing challenges.

Rest assured if you are following and interested in my project, it will start up again pretty soon. The next major bit won't be very glamorous, as it involves pulling the motor back out, and hours upon hours of welding sheet metal where the firewall and tunnel are just tacked together so far.

Before doing that I do have to finish up the back end fuel inlet and also figure out / fabricate a battery location, so there is that coming up probably starting next weekend.

That being said, I started thinking about my plan, and after the battery mount, I think I have pretty much all the design fabrication done, so now it's just a matter of going back and welding and finishing everything up that is tacked in place. I may figure out some sort of rear bulkhead of some sort for the very back area where the fuel filler is, and also probably should put in a driveshaft loop. I also need to clearance the lower rear inner quarter panel drop offs for exhaust clearance.

Bought this for entertainment recently. 78,000 original miles 350 4 speed 77 Nova Rally. Not a Mustang but something interesting from the same era as our II's.

Oh yeah, a month or so ago this happened a few miles from my house lol..forgot to say I think.

It seemed surreal to see all the train cars squished and piled in a heap. It destroyed a bridge as well.
They had it all cleaned up and new bridge installed in about 3 days.
I bet there were 300 people working on cleaning and rebuilding, and they worked around the clock. Pretty incredible.

Always thought about doing the 74 Ventura GTO version with the 455 Pontiac swap.

Yes.. I too salivated over the prospect of doing the 74 GTO, shaker, with a 4 speed and 455. Would be killer...looked for a long time, but only found expensive junk and no good cars to start with. What would have made an awesome GTO is if in 72 they used the Nova body with the ventura stuff and nicer swept c pillar style body and put in the 455 instead of making the GTO's grow to land yacht size. Having said that I remind myself I do like the colonnade body GTO and Laguna cars so ....

worked on the rear fill gas tank set up a bit more. Everything's tacked. Now on to mounting the battery. I wanted to hide it in the quarter panel. To see if that is an option, I need to mount the inner plastic back in to see what space and access I have to work with. Sooooo that means cutting a hole for the roll bar in my pristine black plastics...stay tuned lol...

Thanks, Yeah I toyed with the idea of the regular Mustang large cap, but the profile of the rear panel doesn't lend itself to a clean version of that set up. So I thought I would use something that really does not change the appearance of the rear panel at all.

The hole I cut in the plastic miraculously went exactly where it was supposed to be. I will count that as horseshoe up the a$$ lucky and continue on.
Now that I can see where I have room for the battery I can cut out some of the side support steel and mount the battery tray. I am going to have to cut the side plastic neatly and make mounting points for screws to hold where I cut it. I am hoping to do a neat job of it so it won't be super noticeable. I did not clean up the frayed edges yet so the fuzzy plastic on the cut will be gone once I sand the edge slightly. The hole is neatly cut, I did it with a hole saw.

well.....cut more metal out of my car lol. Now there is a mother giant hole in my car. I am going to build a box to weld in which will form the inner wheel well as well. I am going to have to leave an opening for access to the side marker I guess as well. I can still smell the undercoating burning...... the metal piece with holes is only temporary until I get some metal back in there. Sorry about the blurry photos...

You could change your plans and put an air filter into this big hole. Than you could place some turbos back there. This solution has only benefits:
More weight on the back of the car and you can fill the hole with an intake.

lol..I don't think I will need turbos.... the hole will get re structured with metal shortly. This is a small hole compared to the rest I've put in this car. Nice thing about this is gets battery back over r.h. rear wheel for traction. Also there is plenty of room for tire, these mustangs have a weird odd shaped wheel well that leaves a bunch of useless space behind it. Both sides have the same shape to accommodate fuel tanks, but never any tanks on the RH from what I know..one of the pics the tire is on so you can see.
