5-Spd Issues? Advice...

Sup Stangers...

Well for all the time that Tremec thread has been up, I'll admit I haven't payed much attention to it. I'm not quite techno-savvy with the 4.6, and my 'stang is an AOD to boot.

Anyhow, I was considering trading in for a new Mach 1 or GT, with the 5 speed, cause I keep reading here about how much fun you guys have with it, and I'm sick of getting no respect on the streets for an AT car... however, it looks like there are some serious large-scale issues going on with Ford's transmissions. I need a stick car, and I love my 'stang... but as loyal as I am to the 4.6, I wouldnt mind trading in for a used 6 speed ls1, or even one of the new F150s if the problems are that much of a headache.

Anyone care to break it down for me? Thanks in advance...

Yes there have been lots of small issues with the 5 speeds as of late. There are tech bulletins and whatnot that your dealer can refer to if you do have problems. Also remember that most of the guys on this board are a little harder on their cars than an average driver,so they will always have issues. Most problems are small (grinding going into 2nd gear for ex.) and don't affect the day to day drivability of the car. If you are buying a new vehicle,it will have warranty to cover these problems if they arrise. Ford has done alot of work on the new trannys to fix the common problems.

If you get a built a auto you'll be flying and have just as much fun as stick. All my sports cars have been stick. But if i really wanted to get serious i would get a auto and do my 9s hehe.

I just picked up a Formula and I love the 6speed. It is a little different than my 5speed stang but its still fun.

Drive the Mach and the WS6, pick which car you want after that. DON'T GET THE TRUCK!!!!

The 5-Speed Manual in the GTs isn't the best, but minor problems or not, wow it's 10,000 times more fun than an AT. And it would suck not getting respect, but it's true, most auto cars don't get as much respect because people don't really know if the driver can actually drive or not.
