69 mach 1 fenders

Hey everyone, as you can tell I'm new here. Just bought a 69 Mach 1 351c. I can't seem to get the right answer to two questions I have. Someone has changed the front grill and headlight pieces to a 70 style . Now my question..did they change the fenders too...are the 69 70 fenders the same...I hope..

Next question is about a shaker type hood. Mine has the hood scoop and hole through the hood. I was told this was a shaker hood...stupid me...from what I have researched so far the actual shaker style was only put on the Cobra Jets. A guy that works for me says he had one like mine in 70 that had the Cobra Jet style shaker on it with a 351...Is he right or me. Maybe someone who has time will explain to me or give me a link that will help me find out on my own. Oh yeh my car is going to need complete restore...been sittin in a garage for 25 years.

70 fenders have a turn signal lens in them.

70 models had shakers available on 351c equipped cars.

The 69 & 70 had different fenders. The 69s do not have the marker lights in the fenders. Also the flange behind the headlights that mounts to the radiator support is slightly different due to the 69 having 4 headlights.

The more common hood scoop is the "Cobrajet" style. It has turn lights recessed into the rear surface of the scoop. These scoops were nonfunctional. The hood would have holes for the bolts plus 2 slots near the rear of the hood for access to the turn lights.

The other scoop is the "Shaker" and was available as an option on all Mach Is. There will be a fairly square hole in the hood for clearance of the scoop. The scoop attaches to the air cleaner on the engine.

Incidently, 351C engines did not come in 69s. They were introduced in 70. It could be transplanted like mine. It would be helpful if you posted the data plate info from the left door or the VIN. Is the rest of the car 69? Ignition on dash? Concave taillight panel? Nonfunctional scoops on the rear quarters?

The shaker could be had on non-Mach 1 cars as well. Rare, but I have seen it.

Well evidently the front end has been replaced. Now gotta go out and buy it all. The scoop has light recess, but they are missing along with the grill in front. I just told the guy I bought it from, he is the second owner, about the engine...(he's my neighbor) oops...he swears the engine was never replaced..looks like it too. Switch is on dash, panel is concave and scoops are non-functional. I've got plate info 63c body, y5 color, 3a trim, 21e date, 22 dso, 6 axel, x tran. Is there a way I can tell from the vin if #s match on the drivetrain? Thanks very much for the info..hope to keep in touch.

63c = Mach 1
y = Indian Fire, e = ?
3a = Black mach 1 knitted vinyl
21e = May 21, 1969
22 = Charlotte DSO
6 = 3.00:1 diff ratio
x = FMX trans

I'm starting to wonder if some 351Cs found they're way into some late 69s. Your's is the second one I've heard of that swear the 351C is factory original. There is the possibility the engine got replaced before it was originally delivered to the original owner and a 351W wasn't available at the time. I always thought it was the other way around with not enough cleveland motors available at the begining of the 70 model year.

I tend to believe factory records over 2nd owners that swear that the engine is original. They installed plenty of Windsors in 70 Machs as well, so if I would be forced to guess, the Cleveland debuted after the start of the 70 production run.

Unfortunately, since the H code 2 barrel and M code 4 barrel are the same for Windsors or Clevelands, I guess I will never know for sure, but I have serious doubts that ANY Clevelands came in 69 models.

kevin marti has all the records for even the engine shipments and invoices for the individual assembly plants and he has told me that there were no clevelands delivered to any of the assembly plants anytime in the 69 model year run. is it possible that you are mistaking the cleveland for what is actually a windsor? easy way to identify them is that the windsor has 6 valve cover bolts and the cleveland has 8. another form of identification would be the engine code on the door data plate an M code would be a 4 barrel and H code would be a 2 barrel. there were no 2 barrel clevelands in mustangs until late in the 70 model year.

I stopped by and checked out the car cause Lambo lives nearby. It's rough but deffinately a 69 and it does have a 351C 2V. Its been in there a while. I think it was a replacement motor long ago. Overall a nice project.

I realized where your friend was getting the cobrajet association with the shaker scoop. The shaker scoop on the 70 - 71 Torinos, which is shaped slightly different, carried the "Cobrajet" emblem on them.
