Build Thread '83 T-top Coupe - Welding Holes in My Rear

The mounting tabs are a bit wide and will need some modification to get it to fit correctly.
That's for tomorrow night after I finish trimming the radiator support.
Crap......I just got home from work.....I sat down in the air conditioning......this is the mistake I've made.
I'm trying to convince myself to get up and go back out in the heat and work on Booger.
I'm working on it. I have fun stuff to do too. I'll be fitting the Scott Rod panels today, that is if I get up out of my chair, sitting in the air conditioning........

I do that all the time....working in the yard. I come in and say I only need to go to the bathroom and go back out. Then I say, well, let me grab a snack. After about 5-10 minutes, it's over. I am not going back out! Good luck if you have the will power to persevere.
Ok, I got up.
I started to fit the panel in. I just used a marker and started marking the places that were rubbing. Then I lightly ground these areas. Then kept repeating that step till it was were I wanted it.
For the right side I just need to clean the panel up a little, then put some POR15 in the various can’t get to later spots.
So it’ll be tomorrow before I weld them all of the way in.
I’m working on the driver’s side right now. Maybe I’ll get them spotted in tonight.

No welding tonight, I've decided to take the SR panels to work to etch primer them.
I did get both panels fit up. here's a shot through the t-top.
And from the front.
I got all the areas I will weld stripped. I sprayed weld through primer on the areas getting welded and I put POR15 on the top front of both rails. It's next to impossible to get full coverage on those areas after the SR panels are in.

The mounting tabs on my team z lower were ok. I had to trim the factory rubber insulators a little and it all fit together. You will have to make brackets if the ac condenser is going in.
If you're going standard shift now is the time to reinforce the area the cable comes through the firewall. It's the hole to the top right of the booster location. I've had several personal and customer cars with collapse in that area.

Its the hole just to the left and a little lower than your extra support. It shares the same reinforcement as the power booster on the engine side. Most people just weld a square piece of sheet metal on the engine side with proper sized hole drilled in the center.
Your reinforcement plate doesn't touch that area.

Mine cracked in my car. I used a large washer trimmed down to reinforce it. I think Dave's played would help as is, but he could add a little to it.

I sanded the SR panels with 180 and then got them etched and primered this morning. I’ll spray the weld through primer on the bare spots I’ll be welding.
You do damn fine work, Dave. And FAST, too. Body work is such a slow and tedious process, IDK how you prep and paint stuff so fast.

Well, I've been up for a couple hours just waiting to get out in the garage. I may wait another hour or so.
Really, the next few hours will just involve welding. So maybe I can get after it pretty soon. Welding is relatively quiet. I'm waiting, I guess, so just that someone else in the house is awake just in case I set myself on fire and they will hear my screaming and call 911. Lol.
