I am converting my AOD to a T-5 and want to know what are the differences in the 85 vs 95 T-5 transmission besides the age of the tranny. Need help diciding pretty quickly. Thanks in advance for any help that is given :nice:

95 t5's you will have a problem of placement.. the shifter is out of location that it wont work.. a felow puttin a 88 motor trans (5.0/t5) couldnt get the t5 to work in a 95 because it was out of spot.. not long enough.. so your going to have to get aftermarket for higher ratings

So will the 85 input shaft and bearing from a 85 fit on the 95 tranny? Because a good buddy of mine has a 85 GT that he is letting me have for dirt cheap and a guy on these boards is selling a 95 T-5 in my area for cheap as well. I need advise before I go spending money :D

lol your going to need the correct tranny I.E. a 86-93 t5 for a 86-93 car.. a 94-95 t5 for a 94-95 car lol its going to be off.. the shifter will have to mount in the middle of your console WHERE THERE IS NO HOLE FOR IT if you dont use the correct year/style lol

The 79-04 mustangs shifter is located in basically the same location, as long as he gets the smaller input shaft and bearing retainer I would think it would work. Im not sure if the 94-95 has an electric speedo or no though.

I've got some conflicting info from these few post  But like
Car RamRod suggested it is less of a hassle to just use the 85's T-5.

So my next question is what can I do do make the 85's T-5 handle more than 275 ft lbs of TQ and put me closer to 300 ft lbs like the 95's T-5. I would rather upgrade anything that needs upgrading before actually installing the T-5 tranny?

This is the deal I have a basically stock 5.0 with minor bolt on's and I have a buddy that is gonna sell me a 85 GT for $250 and I really want to do the AOD to T-5 conversion. In your opinion is the 85's T-5 tranny worth swapping into my 89 until I can find a beefier 5spd tranny?

yes in that case yea.. because you will have the correct mounts and lines for a aftermarket tranny considered... also if you wait to get a t5 aftermarket than your car will sit there.. you might as well stick in there for now.. a 85 should have no problem in a 89.. easy peesy :D

795.0 didnt ya see the question that guy put up and he said that it didnt fit.. that he HAD to move the shifter on the trans so it would work.. or cut the hump in the middle

Show me where it says that before I posted, he was asking if it would work, I have seen plenty of people use them, the 79-04 cars are basically the same, I just bought a transmition from a guy who put a tranny from a 98 in his 88.

 ok but gimma a minute.. some dude said he couldnt put the tranny from a 93 down in a 95 conversion he was doing.. said it wasnt comfortable and would be to far forward.. but which ever dude lol AND it wasnt the guy who started this post.. some conversion thread

To put the 85 tranny in you are gonna need the little tranny harness from an 87 and up t-5 i did when i put the 85 tranny in mine. Your gonna wanna update the flywheel and clutch from 85 specs to 87 specs though.

Has anybody in here ever done this swap before. This just came to mind. For one the handles do not mach up differently from the 85 tranny to the 95 the trannys are baisically the same with some different internals. I never heard of changing the mounts either for an aftermarket tranny. Ive done the swap the hardest parts is taking the AOD out.

It was me, and it was a 88' t-5 being put in a 95 automatic stang. The tranny crossmember out of the v6 or the orginal v8 car won't fit up. The tranny doesn't come back far enough, the automatic tranny was longer then the t-5 is. So I'm going to need to make a custom crossmember besides the fact that the shifter doesn't come up in a very good spot inside the car.
