Progress Thread 88 Gt T-top- Project problem child

I got that same compressor, I shoved it my basement and when I'm out in the garage I barely hear it. Does suck though when I forget to turn it off until it kicks on at about 1am :(

Just a couple dirty pics with some updates. Front bumper is basically done. Feels good to see the car with panels , even if they are just sitting there.

Fender extensions are just about done. I replaced the front two due to damage. Sanding inside the scoops is a blast.... they are blocked out and just need a couple spot primes in the edges.

I’ve started on the side skirts. So far I’ve been focusing on getting the MUSTANG GT lettering as clean as possible. This is not an easy task. Hoping to have them in primer this weekend and start blocking.


Doing the side skirts tells me there has been 2+ paint jobs on The car. The factory black single stage. A repaint with black base:clear. Then I think it was shot with some kind of liquid body filler product along with various dent and ding fills over the previous coats, then somekinda sealer with the single stage white on top. I almost wish I would of weighed the car before I started. I read online that a paint job weighs something like 30lbs. I’m curious how much lighter it’ll be.

Things left to do.

Spot prime 4 fender extensions
Prime , block and finish side skirts
Spoiler
Hood
Gas lid ( where did I put that thing?)
Strip the door jambs and reprime them.

Prep garage for paint
Practice on spare parts

I looked forward and dread when I get to the point you are of painting my car again. It will be just as much sanding as you, since it had a crappy single stage enamel paint put on it that has faded to a pinkish color.

It looks fantastic in my opinion so keep up the good work, BUT NEED MORE PICS
 
More slow progress. The side skirts are in primer and started the first blocking. These things get tons on tiny imperfections.

I had one large area I’m trying to deal with. Halfway past the MUSTANG letters was a deformed area. It had a ridge with a valley before and below it. This pics give an idea of what it was. Nearly 1/4” drop.

Using the heat gun I was able to work it till it was more of a wave and less of tsunami . Plus a pic
Of the overall progress. I’ll start on the letters here shortly.
 
First blocking done. Got a couple chips to fill then 2 more coats of primer.

Ok. Basically finished the side skirts. Then life slowed me down a bunch. I was asked to coordinate a hotwheels rally for my church. We had a 50 foot track with prizes and everything. Good times, but ate up my time for awhile. Then I had to finish the laundry room floor to get the new washer and dryer out of the garage. So all that is done and I got my extra space back. For a first sanding of the cobra spoiler done and started filling the nicks and imperfections. Thinking this will go quickly.

It was a lot of fun. My son really enjoyed it. I’m not moving as fast as I’d like but I’m moving forward and that’s what matters.

Reprimed the wing. Should block out pretty easy. I think the tips will be the hard part because they are not as round as they should be.

Found a crappy situation With a silver lining. My wheels were painted gold by the guy I got them from. I planned to redo them grey. Found the gold paint flaking off. The gold paint is coming off with reducer pretty easy. The paint underneath looks great. He didn’t prep them at all, so just a really deep cleaning with reducer and no more gold.
 
Man nothing easy or quick about pant/body work but looks like you're kicking some butt, nice job.
What a win on the wheels no sanding and painting needed.
Seeing that pic of the Hotwheels track brings back memories of me setting up a track on the mantel
over my mom's fireplace and racing cars for hours.
