a standard tune up from ford, but i'll guess if its not being used properly(i.e. high way cruising with that nice little 8) then old age is just settling in.

after i left mine in the air port for extended period's of time, things didnt seem right at first either, then it was fine.

maybe some fuel injector cleaner, a fresh tank, then let it run for a while.

Cars get like that due to neglect. Take care of the car and it will feel like brand new.

Brutal suggested a tune up, so do I.
Keep the car clean
Update the shocks / struts
Clean the interior
Wax the paint
Change the brakes
Fix the rusted exhaust

The devil is always in the details... if you don't do the little stuff, than something big always goes wrong. I am not getting on you, but if you don't take care of a 16 year old car than it wont be very rewarding to have around.

It always seem that clean cars run better...If you take care of a car (tune ups, oil changes, washing/vaccuming) they always seem to take care of you.

Those 4 wires, are they going to the distributor (The tall skinny thing on the front of the engine where the 8 plug wires go to) ? It sounds like it might be a loose plug wire or coil wire...

Might even be the wires that have the fusible links that control, for example, the power supply to the pcm and fuel pump relays. Used to happen to my car until I figured out the wire for the PCM relay was holding on by barely a thread of wire.
