Defective tank. The pump well is not in the correct position.

In this picture you can see the hole in the hanger where the inlet of the pump slips through the hanger. That hole is directly above a ridge in the well that is meant to fit over the raised part of the tank that is a channel on the outside for the tank strap. The well isn’t positioned all the way over to that ridge so the pump doesn’t sit in the deep side of the well.

This picture is straight down from the hole for the pump. It doesn’t look like it’s all the way over to the strap channel to me.

I even tried the old pump to make sure there wasn’t something wrong with the new hanger and it fit the same way.

Thoughts?

Got it from cj pony parts made in Taiwan. I’m thinking I want my money back and get a spectra as it looks like they’re made in Canada. EDIT: looks like spectra gas tanks are now made in a new plant in Sweden.

So do you think a 155 lph is too much for a stock cobra? Should I get a 110? I don’t want to have problems with it. Any advice is welcome and appreciated I’m new at this but enjoying figuring things out as I go and I want to do things right.

A 255 pump is kinda large for a stock-style fuel system. Do you need that much flow? A 155lph is plenty adequate for most N/A builds.

There are draw backs to running too big of a pump. The return leg/regulator need to be able to pass enough fuel to not impose a restriction that could lead to inconsistencies in the fuel delivery. For example. when running at idle, your return line may be too small for a 255 causing a slight pressure buildup. You adjust the pressure using the Adjustable FPR to allow for more flow through it, but what you are really doing is adjusting flow based on the downstream restriction combined with the FPR setting. At WOT, your engine is now consuming more fuel that previous, so that restriction is gone and your FP will decrease slightly from your set point.

Because of this I tend to recommend sizing the fuel pump based on your needs to give better consistency in pressure. Every combo will be different however.

Stock or bolt on 93 Cobra? 110LPH or 155 is more than enough.

155 will be fine. You could even put a 190 and have no issues.

I ran a 190 lph for years on a basically stock 302 and then it fueled about three decent 306 HCI motors.

I used a spectra last time for a stock tank it wasn't a coated tank, just bare like some are. I have to check my old email receipts but think I got it from advance when they had a good promo code making it the cheapest lol.. I ran a 320lph pump and stock lines/rails with a kirban regulator. Still working fine, only went with a lager pump because it was getting a spare wet nitrous kit thrown at it. You can get The Dorman 576-106 tank for $82 from Amazon or walmart... Good thing with those is free returns if its screwed up.

Edit yep, was a spectra F12B .for $82 shipped from advanced looks like they jacked prices way up and dropped spectra, they repackage the dorman as a car quest part number now for almost double the price.

Holy hell they have nearly doubled on some sites. Found them on Amazon (yeah I know) and it appears to be the real deal (due diligence is recommended) for $119 shipped if you are a prime member.

That's the tank I used. I got mine on rockauto.com for something like $80, but prices are up

$108 minus 5% code (213614765165367055) so $102 plus $30 to ship. Looks like Amazon is the better deal, plus if it arrives dented (good chance) should be easy to get another one.

I used the Dorman before just not the last time... Didn't have any issues with it.. The 03 cobra tanks I bought hurt since only the mustang shops sell them now. Where like $400 each but I wanted to run a triple pump set up with those.

The problem is, there's only like 3 or 4 manufacturers of the aftermarket stock replacement tanks... Then they get rebranded and marked up like everything else in the parts world these days so price doesn't mean quality any more like most think it does.....as long as its not a 3rd party seller I haven't had issues buying parts from Wal-Mart or amazon.. Idk who acp is the same for tanks but they are repackager so it may be the same as other brands, still have a few new parts from them laying around like door handles, actuators and stuff, things I bought dirt cheap like $10 or less from clearance sales over the years..

Spectra and Sherman are the same tank, car quest and Dorman are the same for fox bodies... Wish I could find a cheap source on the 03 cobra tanks but I'm guessing same manufacturer in Taiwan that Dorman uses, there is a couple versions, like on 3, lethal and glenns... This is a lethal performance one, They have the same coating as Dorman tanks which I like over the spectra tanks I've used. The fuel hats for those are expensive enough, but I like having the ability to run three pumps in a non sumped tank if I ever do high hp boosted set up... And the way prices on nitrous keep climbing I probably will end up doing a turbo set up.

Well I finally got all that crap returned to CJ’s it cost me some money in shipping but it turned out to be worth it. The new tank is definitely better, the slot for the gaskets on the sending unit and hanger actually hold the gasket in place unlike the other one I had. The reservoir (what is that actually called?) appears better to me. I ended up having to get the hanger from advanced auto but the model number was similar to a spectra, fg30acq, so I’m guessing it’s made by spectra. Amazon will be delivering the foam for the top of the tank tomorrow so I’m going to see if I can get the tank installed tomorrow. If I go back out the the garage tonight I’m get the new fill neck replaced and that area cleaned up.

A look inside the new tank reveals a pump reservoir that lets fuel in from a channel in the bottom instead of a hole in the side wall.
