A4LE=weak tranny?

Hey,
My friend has a 93 4-cylinder car which he said has an a4le transmission. What kind of torque rating does this transmission have? He works at autozone and he said he ran it through the computer and it showed that it was also put in some 5.0s from i think 88-92 but i thought they all had AODs. So what's the deal with this tranny? Junk? Thanks.

It's called the A4LD and was put in 4-banger Mustangs and rangers. It's really a POS and is pretty weak.

The 5.0's got the AOD which is a bit beefier, but tends to not hold up for long behind modded cars

They will not interchange. An AOD will not bolt up to a 2.3L and vice versca

Tell your friend not to trust what the Autozone computer tells him. A lot of the info in there for Mustangs is wrong. When you look up parts for a 5.0L LX model, you are referenced to 4-banger part numbers even though you select v8. They really need a hardcore stanger to go through their system

I work at autozone, and when a person comes in with a mustang looking for parts, i hook them up right. I know that a lot of the stuff in the computer is crap. I ussually have to look under other cars to find the right (good) parts for the stangers. I have a few stang regulars that come in and ask me questions regularly now
