Well ... Once again ... I'm so old
I was around when REAL Big Block Fords were the norm
I've owned several of them ... and can say from experience
That rule of thumb about ...........
running a lower (numerical) gear with a big block is true
The simple reason is you got plenty of torque
and
Unlike a small block ... your need for steeper gears isn't as great
Now even though a Stroked Windsor usually doesn't put up
torque values as great as those old big blocks ..........
The difference is not so much as it makes that old rule of thumb void
All you guys of today just kill me

When you talk about gears
Back when I was most of you guys age ............
The last forward gear we could use was a 1 to 1 ratio
Ever heard of ........... "Four on the Floor"
Over drives .............. "We don't need no Stinkin Overdrive"
When I went out on the weekend to raise a little rukus
I was packin a set of 457's in a 9' rear end

Then again ... my wrinkle wall slicks were 28" tall
btw ... I wouldn't wanna give up my OD these days
