Are these realistic goals?

302 parts do make 302 power and if you believe not then your either ignorant or stupid.

No, they do not. Also, there is no need to get personal. If you would like to discuss it, discuss it.

There are quite a few people in here making more than 302 power, with 302 parts. I keep everything on an even playing field.

Typical 302 combination for a daily driven or street car is in the 300 rwhp range.

So what happens when you add more cubes? Does the power stay at the same 302 level it was before? Nope.

You then stroke it with the same top-end, and I have seen many get 30-50 more rwhp. Paul is one, John is another, etc, etc.

Obviously, 302 parts do not make 302 power. The change in displacement changes all of it.
 
As for my combo, it made more power than i thought it would. I will say this, I fully expect to make close to 400rwhp if and when I change the cam, heads, throttle body, and exhaust. If I had to do it all over again I'd have built a high compression 363 and been done with it, but I didn't think that I could reliably make 400rwhp and yet retain great street manners because so many with better NA combos than I have make similar power to what I'm doing now with my mismatched combo. Now that I know it was possible I am kicking myself. :(

But

Are we talking about one extreme of ..............
Street Car with stock like drivability

or

The opposite extreme of .............
Race Car with great peak power and poor drivability issues
that you sneak out on the street every now and then

or

Somewhere in between the two extremes :shrug:

Peak Power is ... IMHO ... just O N E thing to be considered

From my view point ... it is not the M A I N thing I consider for a Street Car

As for drivability :shrug:

I know from experience I can tune a well matched NA combo of 1 rwhp for
1 cubic inch to stock like drivability simply because I have done it.

While I have not done it ... My gut tells me I could do it all over again and
move up the number to 1.2 rwhp per ci with the same or very close type
of drivability.

Having said that ... The numbers would fall around .........
302-306@362rwhp
331@397rwhp
347@416rwhp

Again ... Just speculation on my part but .......

I have always wanted to know what a Pro Tuner such as Don has been
able to do with the focus NOT on Peak Power ... but ... HOW FAR above
the 1 per 1 NA ratio they can go before good drivability starts to suffer.

My idea of good drivability is ;)

I am talking about a NA combo that drives around town in EVERY way like
a little stocker Stang with the exception of cam lope :Word:

Now your on the right track, the displacement adds the power, not the 302 parts, they are hindering the power. Understand now?:shrug:

The point is when people put "302 parts equal 302 power" they are talking about the top-end.

So, when a amateur enthusiast sees this, they assume that their 347 will only make 300 rwhp, like their old 302 hypothetically did.

This is simply not true. It will go up, all else being equal. An extra .2" of stroke on each side will make more power.

So, 302 parts does not equal 302 power.

GA 94GT, I would go with 4.11 gears, a good converter with at least 3300 stall, I only managed a 1.80 sixty feet with the converter i presently have.
was talking to Lenny at ultimate and he thinks that if we losen the converter a little bit let say 3800 to 4000 stall I could manage 1.60 to 1.65 sixty feets, without any ill effects on the city driving since it is a lockup converter, just something to think about .

ga94GT- your goals are withing reach. Look up onebad95, he put down 280rwhp and ran a 12.9 at 105 on his one and only pass at the track with a '95 'vert, AFR 165's, FTI cam designed for a blower, and an edelbrock intake. I think you'll need to get a more agressive converter in there to do it and run at a low elevation track to obtain the ET's you are looking for.
