Are U/D pulleys a good idea???

Well i live in TX and it can get pretty hot down here and i was wondering will the U/D cause the car to runs at a hotter temp? Also can i run my A/C, radio, Headlights,fog lights, and role down my windows at a drive through without the car stalling?


Im looking to get somemore HP out of this thing but i dont want to have to babysit my accessories and make sure the car doesnt stall.

Are there any setback to the U/D pulleys?

shouldn't be a problem for you.

typically the 4.6l doesn't have a problem with pullies unless something is wrong and the electrical or cooling system is already weak in the first place.

I wouldn't worry about it. If cooling started become a real issue, I'd just swap out the stock thermostate for a 180* unit.

I installed mine about 400 miles ago and I havn't noticed any changes in the temp or charging. However, don't expect gobs of HP from the pullys alone. You'll notice a little bit more low end and take off 1st through 3rd gear, but it's not mind blowing.

I live in Lake Charles, La with severe humidity and actual temp in the 90's but because of the humidity it will feel like 110....and i have the pulleys and my temp guage reads the same as when i had the stock ones...so shouldnt be a prob....may start reading a littlle hotter at idle but nothin to worry

Everyone warned me about pulleys when I put mine on, but from south carolina to Cali I havent had a problem even while running the a/c, pimp lights and having my system up loud at a stop

I would say do GEARS first !!!

The added RPM'S would help big time !

I've had u/d pullies on my car now for over 20k miles and I havent had any charging or cooling problems of any kind. I also just added a 180* thermostat and Cobra R power steering pulley to my car this weekend and they work just fine. Although with a colder thermostat, you really need to get the ecu flashed/tuned so that the fan comes on sooner.

Not to disagree with the other posts, but...i live in AZ where it also get very hot and I asked a friend of mine who works part time at All Mustang Performance and he said he was concerned about this. His feeling was that for what you gain from UD pullies, they are not worth the potential risk/damage you may get. He thought other mods would be better because they don't have the risk associated with them - like Cavallo he thought gears would be better.

Hmmmm, considering that the Modular engines are internally balanced and any pulley set up that you buy is either a replacement "dampener" or a "piggy back" set up and has nothing to do with balancing at all....I'd say your theory is shot to hell and something else has caused your oil pump gears to go south.

If you are worried about imbalance or vibration get a kit that includes a new dampener. I have heard the "piggyback" style of pullies can cause the stock dampener to wobble. I recommend Steeda Pullies, I just ordered a set Myself and everybody I know that has them are very satisfied.

Ecactly true! the mod is internally ballanced. Plus Steeda crank pulley/damper is SFI approved

To those who do not know, there is a difference between a harmonic ballancer and a damper.
