Big Block 427 Exhuast set up question

That 308 degrees spec was at .005 lift, not the more often used .050 lift now. And even though it was a somewhat long duration, the lift at the valve was only .500 . For a really impressive sound, nothing beats three dueces , with quiet mufflers, preferably romped on in a downtown street between the buildings A 63-1/2 Galaxie 427 will be a low-riser, unless it came from a factory drag car. As for exhaust, the more cubes you have pumping thru it, the louder it gets. A muffler and pipes that are somewhat quiet for a small block will be noticeably louder behind a big block.

You are right, the 308 duration is NOT @.050 lift, but is still very lopey. The entire motor has been rebuilt so I am completely assuming that is has more lift than .500. When I get the specs this weekend I will post them. I do like the high compression, tinny header and muffler sound that Flowmaster has, and it will still sound incredible with that system, but I was looking for something different. If not flowmaster it will be going on. The system will be atleast 3 inch all the way back.

My 90 has flowmasters and I can't imagine what they would be like in my 70. The drone would drive you absolutely insane. Flowmasters try to make big block sound out of a small block which i think is unnecessary in this case. Get some Hooker headers, 3 inch tubing and something that will not drone. Your ears will bleed!

Im running Magnaflow X pipe and mufflers on my 67 GT500- big block car-

I think it is perfect- I can hear the motor and the exhaust- and there is very little drone on the highway-

Under a load at low RPM, the car does drone-

but at high RPM, and when cruising- it is absolutely perfect-

I am running worked over factory exhaust manifolds as well- no headers-

I see you went the smart route and stuck with Manifolds on your big block. After dealing with full length Hookers on my 67 with both the 390 and 427, about the only headers I'd consider ( if I had it to do over again) for a big block Stang would be FPA shortys or Tri-Y's ( I can't recall offhand which Stan makes for them) I've got his shorty's on my 68 Merc's 390

I think mufflers do make the car sound good, sometimes more than it really has. I don't think glass packs could make a 427 sound bad.

Update on specs

Ok I wil have to apologize. There is a big correction on the 427. This 427 is out of a 66 Fairlane and was pieced together. It has a 428 crank, bored .020 over and the cam is like a comp stage 2 or something..with like .598 lift not really all that much. Stainless steel valves because of how the motor blew. Actually it really didnt blow. Apparently Ford valvestems are hollow. What happened is one stems broke off the valve into pieces and then got sucked into the cylinder beat up eveything in there including the head. My father still has the solid lifter 427 sitting on the engine stand.
