Went to the track the other night for Thursdays Fast Ford Night. And bare witness to a painful event. There was a guy from Canada running a 68 Mustang coupe with a blown 390. The car was amazing. He ran high 9's all night. Well right up until the semi finals. He pulled up through the burnout box. Did his thing and lined up at the tree. Got his rev up slightly. Tree turns green and BANG! I was like what the flunk. His blower/ engine exploded The blower took off like a short lived missle. In its initial launch phase it took the hood with it. After all the white smoke cleared. The driver emerged un hurt. The blower landed about 40 feet behind the car. Luckily no one was hurt. There was also a short fire but track officials quickly extinguished it. Now if that was my car. I woulda been in the dumps after that. But the guy wasnt even that mad. He must have more money than i do
Anyone else seen one of these things explode? Now the track is talking about making anyone with a blower have them strapped on like the top fuel cars. Unfair or Safety smart? Who knows...........

well, even if he did have hood pins, chances are that if the car launched the blower 40 feet behind the car, the hood pins had no chance in the first place.i think its pretty evident that guy is loaded. i would break down in tears, screaming like a girl.

Yah i was thinking the same thing. Id be crying like a girl. Then taking donations for a new blower/hood/heads And everything else that was destroyed. Then id probably mount the blower on a plaque

did you hear scuttlebutt on what caused this to happen? blower backfire? if so, i hope he had a pop off plate (so he does not kick himself for not having one)....

BTW, with my luck, the blower would have gone straight up and come back down, hit me in the head and knocked me through the floorboard.
