I'm starting this thread to document changing from stock mildly ported E7's and stock ported/cleaned up headers, to Blue Print engines SBF pedestal mount heads the 9008HP, and BBK equal length shorty headers. I've ordered the heads bare and am going to have my local machinist build them w good parts and a 3 angle valve job. Also will be changing stock cam to a Comp 35-349-8 212-216 duration and .544 lift w 1.7 rockers. Essentially a stock cam just w .100 more lift. I also plan to finish porting my Explorer intake, mainly working on fixing #1 and 5....as when I port matched it long ago I did not know about 1 and 5 being the problem runners.
To document the HP changes I'm currently working on getting the current engine running on a Megasquirt. Will get this engine happy and well documented/tuned and then will be able to compare fuel consumption/HP to the new combo. The heads were ordered 8-19 and I'm still waiting, same w the headers. Oh the only mods I plan to do the heads are port matching and smoothing/polishing the exhaust ports.

Do you have any paper on the ported E7s and stock headers?
Just wondering, I like to see hp/torque numbers when possible,
I'm a big fan of 'engine masters' but I realize not many have access to that stuff but just in case.

no I ported the heads/headers myself long ago, when the car forced me to remove them due to a leaking head gasket. The megasquirt should give us a good idea of what the current combo is doing. I'm installing it now. It's fighting me. Can't get all 8 injectors firing....will sort the injector wiring issues soon.

There is one area on these heads IMHO you have to touch with a carbide/sandpaper roll. Where the spark plug threads end in the combustion chamber is UGLY. I imagine these if left would be a great source of detonation/pre-ignition. 1st pic is the problem 2nd pic is beginning of the solution. I plan to polish the combustion chamber later.
The 3rd pic is beginning the port clean up.

Ready to go to the machine shop..Tomorrow..It's really hard to take good pics of shiney stuff. In short the pockets were cleaned up and the guides cleaned up,minor work on the intake ports to remove dingleberries and open pushrod pinch (hardly had any reduced it to none)exhaust ports and combustion chambers polished.

My research on the web has turned up these heads are cast in Australia and are supposedly copies of a set of CNC ported Dart heads.

@xecute is from that side of the pond, wonder what he knows about them? He's next door in New Zealand.
It may take him a while to resond, I think there is about a 18 hour difference in time.

It's therefore hard to make a definitive comment when a clearly PRC Chinese Cast, but so-called Australian Blueprint heads are purchased ex Australia and then sent to the USA with out 14 things:-

1. Comp. Valve Job: No
2. Intake Valves Included: No

3. Intake Valve Diameter (in): 2.020 in.
4. Exhaust Valves Included: No
5. Exhaust Valve Diameter (in): 1.600 in.
6. Valve Springs Included: No
7. Damper Spring Included: No
8. Retainers Included: No
9. Locks Included: No
10. Valve Stem Seals Included: No
11. Rocker Arm Studs Included: No
12. Rocker Arms Included: No
13. Rocker Arm Nuts Included: No
14. Guideplates Included: No

My best response is :-In late 1969, ex USA Ford Drag engine guru Big Al Turner, newly at Ford Special Vehicles in Australia grabbed

1. bare USA Cleveland plant 4V M code Canted valve castings

2. from source Ex Canada, and

3. instead of using Cleveland Boss 302 castings,

4. did all the solid lifter conversion and valve supply and machining himself.

End result? QC Phase II Slapped on a 750 cfm 4-BBL EQUIPPED 16 thou de-decked 351C 4V M-code block , it Did 14.1 second quarters, 145 mph, and made 340 hp net at 6500 rpm with a custom Windsor 289 K code style 310 degree at lash solid lifter cam with 228 degrees duration and nearly 0.519 " lift.

In 1971, QC Phase III 350 hp net at 6500 rpm with a 300 duration, 243 degrees at 50 thou cam with 0.505 lift. 141-144 mph on the 6150 rpm rev limiter, 13.9 to 14.7 second quarter mile times.

In 1972, QC Phase IV 380- 390 hp at 6500 rpm, and with a 300 duration, 243 degrees at 50 thou cam with 0.505 lift. 153 mph on the 6150 rpm rev limiter, but 170 mph with it removed.

I ordered bare heads so my machinist could build them w quality parts, I got the pedestal mount version. So your list of 14 is down to none. I'm very happy w them.

Sometimes. Just not today.

I think in approx. 400 posts, one sentence you'll find, Good CarMichaelAngelo.

I have a new window sticker on my Toyota......

At least you all haven't been underinformed. You can take or leave it.

PS. I was wrong about the Forged pistons and how much over bore a Cleveland Engine Plant 2 block can take.

I think what our friend was trying to convey was those heads are as good as the work put into assembly and clean up, assembly and bowl/port work with quality parts and workmanship will yield good results.

I got them back from the machine shop today, all comp cams parts, after all I'm in Memphis....Bill was $450 so I got a total of $1270 into these heads. They'll get put on as soon as BBK sends me some headers, they say Nov 8th, want to make sure the exhaust ports match. Stainless Chevy valves.

I gave you a thumbz up.

The deal is you make your own luck.

A nice Ford approved aluminum casting is my first choice, but the risks for other castings from all over the world are easy to mitigate if you can do the quality work yourself. Or , at least, command that some one else does it.

Showin' ma age, but, ahem, back in the day, we had the first aluminum heads for small block non 335's in 1989. Way later than the 1983 alloy 335 SVO's. Windsor guys have had it good ever since Alan Root and Ken Duttweiler did the early inception of the J302's.

Its 31 years on, and thank G""d, its a buyers paradise now . Head temper, casting porosity, and the risk of hitting a void or a water galley still exist, but people have been putting years and multiple rebuilds on early aluminums.

Pictures of the excitement in Australia in 1989. I was there. Great time to have America casting alloy heads, but we were casting Alloy head Fords way before then, and its sad the big old Giant didnt just make A3, B3, D3 335 canted valve headed cars in 1983 from Jack Roush's empire. Never mind. So Alan Root AR-1/ Pro-1/J302's were the bomb....

I would like to but getting my MS injector wiring sorted out is taking much longer than I hoped. I a greater incentive now as I've bought another Mustang and its ECU is dead. My attempts to revive it are not going well, it now turns off FP after 2 secs but wont start car, just backfires thru intake. So If I get my 89 running w the MS, I can put its ECU in the 91. (91 runs great w 89 ECU BTW) The heads aren't going on till at least Nov 8 as BBK isn't supposed to send me any headers before then. Then on the 10th I'm scheduled to get a wisdom tooth removed. So I got plenty of time to get MS working.
