BOOM it finally broke

I also vote stock shortblock. Should be able to get it running again for less then $300 long as the heads didnt eat it too. Pulley it down a hair if your nervous its going to happen again. Even if it happens once a year, $300 and a weekend is a pretty fair price to play.

Sorry to hear that Jeff! I know what you mean about expenses piling up. No matter what you do, there's always something else to buy or fix. This Barracuda restoration project I'm finishing went INSANELY HIGH over budget. They're worth it while you're out there having fun, but blowing **** up just makes you ask yourself why the hell you keep doing it to yourself over and over, haha.

Thanks guys.

I don't know what to do. See it wasn't exactly stock, I mean stock block, but that's not what broke. Well ok it did when the rod went flying through it. At least that 's my belief right now, only pulled the heads. May have a bent valve or two. A hole punched in both sides of the pan, hole in the block. SRP pistons, SRP I beam rods, Eagle crank, canton pan. Hope my new comp cam is ok, not counting on it.

I went too big, should have left it the way it was. Before I had dinky 1.90/1.60 heads, a small comp cam .512 lift, performer II intake, and a little paxton 1220SL. Well I got carried away put the bigger heads, bigger cam, bigger intake and of course a big ass Vortech YS with meth! The previous combo dynoed at around 460/421 to the wheels at 5200 rpm and ran 10.60's @ 125 on a consistent basis. So......I think I was making a wee bit too much with the new combo. I didn't bother pulling the shortblock for a going over. Hindsight now for sure.

I could throw a stock shortblock back in, hell I could get my old 86 motor back for 50 bucks, but then I won't be able to use anything I have. I could buy that nice new stocker for 700 bucks but it's all 50oz and then I need to replace all my nice and expensive SFI 28oz stuff.

Bigger always means never good enough.

It's obituary will be in the paper next week.

Heck, you could sell the 28oz flywheel or damper and get enough to buy all of the 50oz stuff at a salvage yard.
Craigslist, baby!:nice:

It's not the end of the world!

If it makes you feel better last year I pulled the engine in my car probably 5 times had the heads off almost every weekend for awhile because the damn head studs were pulling the threads right out of the block. Then I picked up a fresh 306 hyperusucktic shortblock off a buddy for $100, put that in and broke #8 piston within 30 street miles and 2 hits. Then, a lot of monies was spent.

Keep it simple. If the heads aren't bad just gotta replace a couple valves do that, F cam, whatever intake you were running and pulley that thing down it was probably making 550 at 6200 where I am assuming you were shifting around. Or sell that thing off and get a smaller blower. S trim, SQ, F2, Novi 1000, F1r, P1SC, Novi 1200, F3, Si any of those will work

A 50oz balancer is less then $100, and you can probably get a different weight for your flywheel.

Well took it apart. #8 SRP rod broke, spun around in block punching holes in both sides of block and my canton pan, and bending the main stud girdle and slapping the piston repeatedly. Broke the cylinder skirt, lodged a piece of it , wedging the cam, locked it up, causing my ARP cam bolt and dowel to shear off in cam, and intake valves slapping the pistons.

Completely totalled

Enjoy...............
