Its weird for the rod to break like that, even in the lower SIR series. I typically tell guys 600hp max, and I dont prefer them in a boosted set-up.
I have a new theory for you... check around the #2 main make sure the block isn't cracked. Check the thrust on the crank, it should be around .004"-.008"....Im thinking the crank walked/moved and the rod hit the cylinder skirt and all hell then broke loose.
Can you see the number on the front weight of the crank, it will tell me if it is forged or not.
