Can you tune for mileage?

Can you use a tuner to get better mileage? Or would it just run it to lean and burn something up. Im thinking of getting a hand held tuner and would like to get better mileage during the work week and then put in a HP tune for the weekends. Also how much can someone expect from a tune in HP, is it worth it. I had a one for my 05 V6 car and I couldnt tell any difference.

it is possible to do this. Most canned tunes (87 octane) provide a more fuel efficient setup. They do this by leaning the car out just a bit throughout the global scale. where not talking anything drastic, just enough to pick up an extra mpg or 2.

Iv seen some 93 tunes that the fuel mapping was leaned out also, but it just depends on your mods. in sme cases, you may need to add fuel so its next to impossible to gain fuel economy.

I have a slusho automatic; stone stock getting 24-25 mpg on the highway with stop and go.

run 42 psi in your tires, easy starts and coast to stops, make sure car is tuned up and keep it waxed... waxed has proven 1-2 mpg difference.

Speed is the killer. Keep it at 65 on the highway.

Usually once a tank you crack that biznatch WOT to ensure she's cleaned out.

If you're stick, you should be able to squeeze 27-30 out of your car, as others have bragged on here. My best fillup was 25.00 mpg even; with 70 percent highway, 30 percent city.

I could really care less if some tart in a minivan wants to blow past me at 80mph or the rest of the big square boxes out there on the road. I believe the Mustang has sole that the rest of the tupperware appliances out there fail to deliver, hence the reason the faster they get home the better.

I enjoy the drive! After all, that's why I bought a GT.

you can have the car retuned at the expense of a few hp. lowering the idle, leaning out the a/f ratio, and altering the coasting fuel shut off can all help you gain a few mpg.

Hahah once a tank go WOT, I have a tough time not going WOT once a day (actually I don't remember the last day I didn't go WOT). I'm always hammering her around and still get 20-21mpg driving 50 highway and 50 back roads. It’s a muscle car have fun with them.
