you have something funny going on and i doubt its the twist and tape of the wires. if you do it right you will have no problems, ive done that on tons of systems and have never had an issue with any of them, flavadave can vouch for it. solder is the way to go though.
if you dont have an amp in there, get a multi meter and check for shorts. the only thing i can think of that would cause a pop, then nothing would be a short/ground issue.
like i said im not going to soder them till i get it working. the connections are fine....this is how i did the radio in my supercoupe...twisted and taped test then soderd...
why would i sorder them if it aint working yet? then i would have to keep cutting and re doing it....
