Awhile back there was a thread about cell phones, coverage, etc... My plan with T-mobile expires tomorrow and I was wondered who you had and your opinion. I am leaning towards nextel because I can get a discount through the fire department, and the only thing I really need is service in Woodland.

Anything will work in Woodland, Ridgefield on the other hand... sucks.

I just got a Verizon Nokia 6236i (bar style), my old Samsung (flip phone) was beat and I couldnt get service like I used to. It cost ~$50 with the family share plan contract, normally ~$270. It has a camera, which I never cared for and got by without it for 6 years. I like a lot so far. Built in antenna is probably the best feature, I hate antennas poking me when the phone is in my pocket.

I'd get anything but Verizon. Their coverage is okay, but their business practices make me want to vomit. I have a Verizon phone now, but only because it is a company phone. If I were getting a personal phone right now, I'd go with Consumer Cellular.

I have Verizon and am pretty happy with it. I've had a few others like Cingular, AT&T, etc. I like Verizon because most of my friends have it so calling is free.

I've heard these get good reception:

Ditto... they don't offer that plan anymore though, if you change it you cant get it back, but if you're like us and still have it, you can keep it as long as you want.

I also am with sprint and their coverage has improved. I worked for 2.5 years for one of the nations largest retail wireless in a coorporately owned store and have many insights and opinions of wireless and what is offered.

IMO, verizon has the best nationwide coverage overall, but is way too expensive if all you know arent on it. Phones are OK, but obsessed with LG which can be substandard. Hit or miss.

Sprint is also decent coverage, good phones, and thus far I have had great customer service. Priced relatively competitive.

If AT&T still existed solely, I would have a diff opinion of that company, but since cingular took it over its better. The AT&T/Cingular NW was rated the worst coverage area in the United States two years ago, but in response to that not so good report they have implemented a multi tower plan. They have already launched close to 50 and have another plan for almost that many. About 10/mo going up right now. Just to give clarity, those towers are app $1,000,000 each, so that says alot about Cingular caring about their customers. The coverage, as should now go without saying, has gotten better. Pricing is OK.

T-Mobile does alot of borrowing of towers, but you would never know that. This is why they offer plans at a seemingly much lower cost than most of their competitors. However, since they too are Global Systems Management (GSM) their number one roaming partner I believe is Cingular. Cant go wrong there.

I know a rep that works for every single company, so if you want a reccomendation for who to go see just let me know. Hope this info helps.
