Choosing an Intake???

Hey everyone,

In the process of building a motor and I'm looking for recomendations on what intake to buy. The car is used for street/strip

Here is what I have:
302 bored .040 9.5:1 Compression
E7 Heads flow bench ported with Gt40 Valve package
Ford E303 Cam
1.6 rockers

5spd with 4:10's
Thinking of switching to 3:73's with the car now being stick

Dude, the Explorer is sweet & cheap, and you could always do a little port work down the road to make it run even harder. If you aren't a fan of the looks, the Cobra and GT-40 are basically the same thing, but more expensive. Don't buy a Chinese Cobra intake (the castings that FRPP currently sell are Chinese)!

To keep this thread as tech as possible, the Eddy is a good intake, but maybe a little too large for a 302 with just ported E7s on it. The 351 intake might also be too much flow for your setup. Both would make good high end numbers, but low end torque will suffer.

Actually, I've heard good things about those. They look really good, too. Even though they are more expensive than used Explorers or Cobras, they still are a decent price compared to other new aftermarket units. I can't say, however, that I've ever seen a direct dyno comparison of one of those and a Cobra/Explorer/GT40.

I really like my SYSTEMAX its a great intake and its good for NOS if you ever want to go that rout and diffanatly go with the 3:73 ,4:10 is a little over kill and not trying to be a smarta$$ but you should really go a F303 Iv had the E and the B and the F is by far the best cam and the best soundin cam!!!

Wouldn't the F cam be a little over kill on my set up? I have had other people say that they thought the E might even be a little much for my car.

I dont think it would be long as ur runnin those 1.6 rockers because your valves arent that big.

Don't get an F cam.

An E cam would be better but letter cams are really outdated, you can get a better off the shelf cam from someone like crane, comp cams, etc. Call one of them up and run what they recommend, if you really want a new cam.

For the intake, I agree to use an explorer. It would be a great match for your setup, and let you put more dollars to a cam with less dollars from your pocket since you seem interested in changing that too.

get a typhoon this is coming from a person with a t-moss, 2 explorer's, and an edelbrock..

I don't remeber the exact numbers, but it was something like 220? intake and 150? exhaust, if that sounds logical.

Stock or ported, an Explorer/Cobra/GT40 would be a very nice choice then for good average power and not give up much if any up top. Typhoon would be OK too, Holley SMII is too much for a wide power band but would pick up peak - same for a RPMII.

Would the RPMII rob a lot of low end torque?
There is one for reasonably cheap in the classifieds of the local auto mag. so I thought about picking it up unless it would do more harm then good to the power.
